log contains no data, this could very well be something I'm doing wrong, but I'm not sure what as I'm following the only installation instructions I can find.

First, you appear to use some turnkey flavor. Hence, a better place to ask is the Turnkey-MVS group.

Second, the binary from the turnkey install uses CPU instructions your particular CPU doesn't know about. The only way out is to recompile yourself. Search Google for Hercules Helper.
