I'll attach the log and config files so you can see what I did.

I can confirm that I have d6.0a running here as well, on an M1 Ultra Mac Studio running macOS 13.5.1. The hercules version is?4.7.0.11007-SDL-DEV-gcddce71b building using Hercules-Helper?v0.9.14-43-g88ec36e-dirty back in July.

In addition to doing the IPL and some basic commands including creating my own account, I also left it running for a day or two to see if it would crash after some period of time. It didn’t — it remained stable the whole time until I manually shut it down.

There are some differences in my config vs. Jeff’s, so I’ve included mine here as another data point.

Hi John,

I know nothing about MTS, but I played with it once out of curiosity to get it up and running.? Issues Running MTS on SDL Hercules (Hyperion) 4.x - Summary of Trials

开云体育

Thought I would migrate this discussion over to the MTS list as the Hercules list is too general.

?

So, I have had no luck running the standard d6.0A MTS distribution under any type of VM.

?

It does work fine on all of these machines/VMs using Hercules 3.06 and 3.13

?

All of my SDL Hercules builds were built with the “hercules-helper” scripts which builds the current devel branch (currently 4.7).

?

Systems I have tried:

?

Ubuntu 22.04 on AWS

NetBSD 9.3 running on an Antsle VM Box.

CentOS 7 running on an Antsle VM Box.

?

I haven’t had time yet to haul out one of my old rack servers to install NetBSD or Ubuntu on bare hardware, but may try that soon.

?

I’m going to get the lbltp program now and capture the super dump. If anyone knows how I can look at this or if someone wants to see it, let me know.

?

I don’t mind digging into this, being a programmer of? 40 years, but not sure which thread to start pulling on.? If anyone has an idea of what might cause this to fail in virtual environments, let me know.? I will follow any clues.

?

Thanks

Cool! Thanks.

I've got my mitts involved in several different things at the moment (as usual) so it might be a while yet before I can get around to giving it a try. But rest assured I will!

I found a copy on the Internet Archive's Wayback machine, but I have no
idea
whether it's the "current" one or not. I simply presume it is. It's
"d6.0A". Is that
the current version?

*

Click on FEB 9 (the last snapshot they made), takes you to:

*

michiganterminalsystem/mts-d60A

Which displays the archived web page.

From there, clicking the download link takes you to:

*

id=0B4t_NX-
QeWDYN2QwMGU4NWMtMTRiYS00ZTc5LWIyOWUtNTg0YjQyOWIxY2I4

Where a non-clickable Google Drive download link (that must be manually
copied and pasted into your browser) is presented.

Using THAT URL:

*
QeWDYN2QwMGU4NWMtMTRiYS00ZTc5LWIyOWUtNTg0YjQyOWIxY2I4

will eventually get you to the Google Drive web page where you can then
FINALLY download the actual distribution from.

It's a 79.1MB download, and *appears* to be the current d6.0a
distribution, but
not being that "up" on MTS, I can't say for sure. Only someone from the
MTS
group who is familiar with MTS distributions will be able to tell for
sure.

Hope that helps!

Ha. Even better: the PDF had a link in it pointing to D6.0A.ZIP in google.drive.

I put it to the files section of this group; it chews up a bit of our 1GB allocation, but I think it's important enough to warrant the dent in the DASD budget.

I did not put it up; I suspect that members can't upload files (Dave Wade? yes/no?).

Can someone with the appropriate permissions copy it up (possibly with the PDF I made?)

I've put a copy of d6.0a.zip at:

I can remove it quickly if there are any objections to it being there.

Re: Download Site

Bitsavers and deepblue have all the tape distributions, but not D6.0A (which is the one that is ready to rock'n'roll under Hercules).

I took the D6.0A media, configuration, and PDF of an old MTS Q&A page and put them up to as a stopgap. We'll find out if my ISP meant it when they said "There are no set limits on the disk space or data transfer (bandwidth) that we provide in our hosting plans."

The Wayback Machine has the archive site:

Dennis,

But not a copy of D6.0A.ZIP which contains the actual distribution.

Theres files at:

and:

(but knowing nothing at all about MTS until about two hours ago I have no idea
if any of these are usable) which I found from the links under "Distribution" at

in the sentence "Today, complete materials from the six full and
the ten partial MTS distributions as well as from two redistributions
created between 1968 and 1988 are available from the Bitsavers
Software archive[122][123] and from the University of Michigan's
Deep Blue digital archive.[124][125]"
