Re: BOS/360 run test

Roberto,

I am not sure what you do with your TeraTerm console connection. I just tried it myself and it works perfectly fine.
I changed two settings: Enter will send CR+LF, and local echo is activated. The IPL sequence from the card reader is:
?
1) start Hercules;
2) connect your TeraTerm console;
3) in the Hercules console: ipl 280 (Enter)
4) in the Hercules console: devinit 00c jobs/ipl.jcl eof (Enter)
?
After that, you should (only) see the 1L02A message?on your TeraTerm console. The system is ready to run jobs.
?
Cheers,

Re: BOS/360 run test

Could it be SET DATE=08/31/2021,CLOCK=12/47/00

I am not certain what the date and time delimiters would be.

I've see on files a BOS360.zip file uploaded by Ren¨¦ (thanks/mer?i)
and I'm trying it I'm using TeraTerm as telnet client, and Hercules
4.0

I found some curious behavior
If I type? ADD X'00C'... up to SET DATE, I got 0I20I IPL COMPLETE
message as expected but
- if I paste the commands on teraterm window and press on keyboard
last <ENTER> ... I got no message, just stuck there
- if I type on hercules console:?devinit 00c .\jobs\ipl.jcl ascii
eof, then on TeraTerm <ENTER>; instead IPL COMPLETE I got 0I18A SET
STATEMENT NOT GIVEN

Does Telnet needs a special setting? Do I miss any special key
sequence for end of file ?

Best Regards
Roberto

00e->02e: Got 'em both in the above update.? Thanks!

Agreed re additional feedback on device addresses, hence the separate topic for DOS/360 under VM.? Spooling deserves discussion.??

Re: DOS/360: cancelled during install...

Think you'll find two lurking X'00e's in verasm04.jcl...I did, at least.

And yeah, I thought about making that change to another range myself, but decided to defer it until others had had a chance to weigh in. VM/370 CE has 16x genned as 3340s, but that's not a big deal, just use the directory entry to put the DASD at the addresses you want.

Re: DOS/360: cancelled during install...

Ran through the verify steps. Everything ran fine, though I did have to change the ASSGNs in veraso04.jcl for the printer to X'02E'.
The original versions got?1A14D ?CONFLICTING I/O ASSIGNMENT messages.

Looks like it's good, now. And for initial VM use, we can always just dedicate?a real 1403 to it...

Re: DOS/360: cancelled during install...

The one issue I see is that you can't really automate anything with CMS EXECs, since CMS assumes the A-disk is at 191, and the supplied stuff assumes SPOOL1 is there. I would assume that POWER could be patched to do the handshaking, if the source code where that would be needed is present, or the hook locations are known.

Have you run your DOS/360 under VM/370? It should not be very hard. But the one problem I see is handshaking (automatic close of spool print/punch files), probably not implemented on DOS/360. The OS has to be patched for that. George Shedlock did it for DOS/VS.
