Prof. Ferland, would you be willing to post your complete job(s)? I have hello world working for FORTRAN, PLI, and COBOL, but not assembler yet...

Marcel -
Happy new year to you as well!

I hope to deliver - in the near future - a DOS/VSE/Hyperion/VM370 package!

I am most interested in your efforts and look forward to your delivery. I too, come from that era.

Best regards,
Jim

1=T....

Well my last "real" DOS/VSE IPL was 1990..... (As a VM/VSE systems programmer) ...
The devil was in indeed in the detail..... .. And my memory very big (so details are easily lost!)

I was running Hyperion 4+ with VM370CE with DOSR34.. Only ... that delivered no success...
So I skipped VM370CE .. and .. SUC6...?

To speak with Spock... There must be a logical explanation......

And

I have to thinker with the VM370CE version to include the real console definitions etc etc...

Thx for the support!

I hope to deliver - in the near future -? a DOS/VSE/Hyperion/VM370 package!

But for now...... Happy New Year for all!

Well, not really... $$A$SUPT is a modified version of $$A$SUP1 made by Michel for all I know. I think $$A$SUP1 still exists on Michel system, but it is not its proper supervisor.

VM Sixpack 1.2 is fine. If you run DOS/VS native under Hercules, I see no problem using Michel Beaulieu system; use his disks and supervisor $$A$SUPT at IPL instead of $$A$SUP1, and you should be okay. :-)

I've been resisting running this under VM/370, may have to change that.

The VM I have installed is either the 1.2 or 1.3B3 six pack. New enough, or do I need to grab VM/CE?

The AUTOSTART deck install job is on minidisk 191 of the DOSVS virtual machine, file POWER SYSIN. So to update it, I suggest you punch it to your host, update it on the host and then submit it to DOS/VS via the card reader of VM/370. I am not sure if running the job will scratch and replace the existing one.

Shedlock DOS/VS: Changing POWER/VS autostart deck?

Looking at Professor Ferland's supervisor build from the Moshix M92 video, I see that there are additional unit record devices defined.

I have a sockdev reader defined in my hercules config at x'02c', running the $$a$sup1 supervisor in the Shedlock 5 pack. Submitting a job to that reader does not seem to do anything, until I did a PSTART RDR,02C.

If I IPL the Beaulieu system (using the $$a$supt supervisor), I can submit jobs to the reader at x'02c' just fine without manually issuing a PSTART.

Looking at GC33-5403-1 DOS/VS Power/VS Installation and Operations (Sept 74), there are probably a PSTART for the reader at 02C in the autostart deck on the Beaulieu system. How does a novice change the AUTOSTART deck?

As for other languages, I heard Paul Edwards ported GCC on DOS/VS but I never tried to install it.

Shedlock DOS/VS: Compilers?

So far, I've discovered the FFORTRAN and PL/I Compilers on the Shedlock system. Haven't tried COBOL yet.

I'll probably end up just making a new supervisor with everything set up for 2314 work files.

In Professor Ferland's videos, I thought I heard that RPG could be installed, as well as higher level compilers for the other languages. Can anyone point this novice in the correct direction for getting those installed?

I watched the Moshix M91 and M92 videos, understand what they are doing, and everything is working so far (I have gotten PL/I and FFORTRAN programs successfully compiled). So thank you very much!!!

I'll have some more questions I will start new topics for, but this is pretty cool. Alien (I have an MVT/MVS background), but cool.

That's because you are trying to use the DOS/VS virtual machine logon console as a system console. DOS/VS expects its system console to be on 01F while the logon console is on 009. What you need to do is the following:
?
1. Logon normally on DOSVS with a 3270 connection.
?
2. Purge all spool files from the virtual card reader:
?
? ?purge rdr all
?
3. Run the DOSIPL EXEC:
?
? ?dosipl
?
4. When you get the message IPL 360 on the logon console and
? ?the word RUNNING at the right bottom, minimize that window
? ?and don't touch it for the moment.?
?
5. Start a new 3270 connection, press Enter to erase the VM/370
? ? logo, dial the DOSVS virtual machine on 01F
?
? ?dial dosvs 01f
?
? ?and press Enter twice.
?
You should see message 0I04I at the top of the screen and be able to continue with the IPL process.
?

I don't have a listing of the superviser generation and don't know what I'm doing wrong (it was 1990 the last time I generated VSE and VM... so rusty allright)

Hope you can shine some light on it :-)

I am NOT running under VM/370; I am (just now) using the configuration from Beaulieu, but with the Shedlock DASD. I am working through the M91 video right now, POWER/VS just came up. Let me get through the (your) videos, and we'll see where I land.

DOS/VS: where to start?

I'm wanting to get a DOS360 or DOS/VS (preferably) running. I'm looking for something that I can just do compile and run for PL/I, Cobol, and (hopefully) FORTRAN.

I grabbed the dosvs5pack-v1r0m1*.zip files from the yahoo groups archives, and got it running (had to adjust the configuration for case-sensitivity, I host on Linux). Apparently it was put together by Michel Beaulieu.

I see references to a 5-pack by Shedlock.

Are they the same? If not, which is preferable for my load-and-go scenarios? (and where do I find the latter?).
