Question: +owner messages

开云体育

Hi,

?

It's probably been asked and answered, but where do I find the +owner messages? I received the message in my “Outlook inbox”, but when I look in the groups.io online WEB page, the only place I find any reference to the post is under Admin->activity.

I’m sure I’m doing something wrong; please point me in the right direction.

?

Thanks,

Ken S.

So you found the message in Admin - activity. And now click on the message - the subject - to open it up. You can read and reply from there.

If you click open someone's member record, there's a pull-down "Membership" menu where you can select "+owner messages." This will display a sorted list of every one they've ever sent, with the most recent first. Note: Until about a year ago, this page was accessed via a button, not a menu.
?
?
Of course, you have to know who sent it to do this. To retrieve a single, recently-sent message, clicking the link in the corresponding activity log entry might be easier than trying to hunt down their member record.
?

Bruce

Hi Bruce & Frances,

Thank you, but that doesn’t alert me to a message being posted. In this case, I happened to look at my Outlook e-mail and noticed it. Can I assume there isn’t a?folder called?“+owner messages”?

Obviously, there isn’t a pending owner message flag. Is that something that would be useful to others?

Thanks,

Ken S

Check your subscription for the group where you are owner or moderator.
Scroll down to ?Owner Email
All Emails
Receive every message that is sent to [email protected].
?
Make sure this is ticked for your group.
?
You should be able to create a folder in your email account. That's where the messages are sent.

In the Activity Log, pull down the filter menu and select action "Message - to +owner". You can get a complete list that way.
?
Generally, though...
?
-- In the web interface, +owner messages are grouped by subscriber.?
-- There is no separate notification you can set up for when an +owner message arrives.?
-- As best I can tell, +owner messages from non-members are not stored at all.

Obviously, there isn’t a pending owner message flag. Is that something that would be useful to others?
Superficially, I'm not too interested in...
?
-- receiving a notification that an +owner message has arrived,
-- reviewing it for content, and then
-- releasing it back to myself.
?
That said, there may be some use case that I'm not understanding.
?

Bruce

I think a pending owner message flag would be useful as the members of my 1036 person group use?the +owner email to call my attention to some detail in a message they have sent for posting.?

Okay, I think I finally get it. You (and possibly Ken) use the app/web interface exclusively for groups.io functions and don't check email often (if at all). On that basis I can understand why some indicator that an +owner message has arrived might be useful.
?
I'm not fond of the Pending idea, though. The problem is, how do you clear the "flag?" Are we going to force group admins to log in just to do this? Sending you an email to tell you that you have an email doesn't strike me as productive, either.?
?
Rather than a flag or badge, it might be useful to have an option to set up a Moderator web/app notification for this (/helpcenter/manual/ownersmanual/notifications/notifications_mod_individual_groups.htm), perhaps including a link to the message. Those group admins who do check their email regularly can simply not turn it on.
?
Nonetheless, please note that +owner messages from non-members are not stored on the site. Unless Mark changes that too, you'll still have to launch your email to address those.

Bruce

P.S. GMF gets a lot of spam sent to +owner. No way would I turn on such a notification...the emails are bad enough.

I do check for group.io mail frequently in outlook on my computer. I use the app if I am out and about. The reason I said a pending owner message notification would be useful is that I have asked members of my listserv to use that address if they want something changed or done with a message sent to the listserv. Most people send those messages to my personal email, and while I check that frequently as well, I go to the listserv messages first - as we are a "moderate all messages" group.?

It's not a huge deal to me, I replied to an ask from someone to say if we thought that a pending owner message would be useful to us. I can live without it, and have since we moved our group from Yahoo to groups.io - right when groups.io began. I love the high functionality of groups.io and am grateful to Mark that he created it.
