Missing messages
Several of my group members are telling me that they are not getting all of the messages.? They are receiving their messages downloaded to their computers and may see the last one in a whole thread, but not the original one or any subsequent ones.? Is anyone else having this problem or is there something they need to check on their settings?? It just started happening in the last day or two.? Before that they were getting all the messages.?
thanks, Ann |
Ann,
They are receiving their messages downloaded to their computers andAre they receiving messages individually, or in a digest? I can't think of any whey they could have that result with individual messages, unless their email interface is in something like Gmail's Conversation mode and they don't know it. If they are receiving individual messages the other "is it plugged in" thing to check would be their Spam/Junk folder, just in case. Shal |
They are all on individual emails. I will tell them to check their SPAM folders. But it seems weird that it would just start happening. We haven't added any new members or changed anything. Thanks for the tip.

I just checked my group's membership list and the two members who are having the problem are both using Yahoo mail, probably a hold over from Yahoo groups. Could there be a setting in Yahoo mail that is causing the problem?

Ann,
Could there be a setting in Yahoo mail that is causing thePossibly. Or maybe "doubtful". There is a "Group by conversation" feature in Yahoo Mail, so that might confuse them if they weren't used to it. But it seems unlikely that they would have changed that setting coincidentally. And the one "conversation" I have in my inbox doesn't seem confusing: the list shows a number for the number of messages, and opening the conversation shows the messages in one tall scroll. One thing I noticed recently was they invited me to try the "new" inbox. I think they rolled that out some months ago, but I very rarely visit so I just now saw it. So I wouldn't guess that to be the source of a "recent" change either. You could also double-check their subscriptions to be sure that they aren't using options in the Advanced Preferences expander to limit what messages they receive. But adjusting that would more likely cause them to receive only the *first* message of a topic, not the last. So I doubt that's it. And again there's the "recent change" question. Shal |
Thanks, Shai. Since it's only these two members that I know of, it just seems strange that they both use Yahoo mail.

Both members checked their SPAM folders and, yes, all of the messages from our group were going in there.? I know it sound conspiratorial, but maybe Yahoo doesn't like the fact that I switched my group from Yahoo Groups to Groups.io.? Only the two members using Yahoo Mail were having the problem.? At any rate, it's fixed now.? Thanks for all your help.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýOne reason groups.io is flagged as spam more often than Yahoo! is Yahoo! is better known. Anti-spam tools use rules of thumb for picking out spam. One common rule is to flag mail from unfamiliar domains. Domains that don¡¯t have the older com-net-org-gov-mil-edu suffixes often get extra scrutiny. Since groups.io is less familiar, it gets flagged as spam more often. This growing pain may get better over time. Best, Marv ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Ann ? ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI wonder why .io was chosen instead of .com or .net? ? Don ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Marv Waschke

This is a huge problem recently and I just re-notified my group about it. On Thu, Jan 18, 2018 at 12:10 PM, <dgrass1@...> wrote:

I also think the reason it doesn't happen with yahoo is that they are not up to date on email protocols and are not subject to this..or something...? On Thu, Jan 18, 2018 at 12:29 PM, J_Catlady <j.olivia.catlady@...> wrote:

I believe some states have anti-spam laws that require a site to quit sending to a recipient when they are informed that the recipient has flagged the email as spam. I would guess that Y! is complying, but their emails just aren¡¯t flagged as spam as often. ? As for why .io? Taste? I think the name is kind of cool myself¡ ? Re the incredimail fanfaron, I looked at the html of the sample. I¡¯m not a human html parser, but I¡¯ve done some work on XML standards. HTML parsing and interpretation is not as standardized as one could wish, and parsing in email tools is even more uneven. I pity Mark & Co for having to deal with it. My recommendation for an easy life is to avoid fancy stuff, but that¡¯s a matter of taste. Best, Marv ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of J_Catlady
