Messages/Topics
Why does the messages list, which you access as ¡°messages¡± in the menu, say ¡°topics¡±. The list is not of topics but of individual messages.
Someone would have to search a specific topic to have a list of the messages under that topic, right? The drop down ¡°Topics¡± menu then says Messages, Expanded, and Polls. No topics. I¡¯m trying to bring more of our members into moderating and more importantly encouraging members to use more of the features. When I run into these less than intuitive features, they decide not to. The tolerance for messages being called topics, and then topics being defined as messages, expanded, and polls is very low. Has this been discussed? Are changes planned? Hi Sharon, When you click on the left Menu 'Messages', the default Topics list comes up. The button at the top that Says Topics has a little drop down menu, and if you click on Messages there, the list changes to individual messages. In date order, initially. Bart Sic itur ad astra! If you get there from the group's home page or the Your Groups list at the top, the view will be the same as it was last time you were there, either Topics, Messages, Expanded, or Polls.? The site remembers the view that you used last.? The exception to this is if you use the overview page of all your groups.? When you click on a group name there, it always goes to the Topic view and that becomes the new default. Topics lists by topic/subject header Messages show them by individual messages with one line of the content shown Expanded shows them individually with full content of each message Polls would show only any polls that exist. If a person has a preference that they always want to use, they could create a bookmark while viewing the page the way they want it. then use that to go to the group. ? You will find previous discussions, as well as wiki information, have covered all of this.? These options have been pretty much the same for at least a couple of years, so I doubt any changes are planned. I prefer to see Topics in Messages, not individual messages.? I'm in two groups other than this one. ? Where is the "overview page of all your groups"?? How do I get there and what do I select? Dan,
Where is the "overview page of all your groups"?Click on the Groups.io logo on the top left (in the blue bar) of any page. If you're logged in that will show you a list of your subscriptions. In the list display of topics Is it just me.......... or does it make more sense to display the 1-2 lines (should be given a choice of condensed, loose, expanded) of the most RECENT?message, rather than the first author/message in the topic (which could be MONTHS old.)???? Most likely peeps viewing the website already know the 1st message (or at least the meat of the subject,) but wants to quickly see (or at least I do) the most recent msg to know whether to in open the topic and read the content. -ken |
