member not receiving own posts

开云体育

Hi

I have a member who is not receiving his own posts to the group. He has checked his spam folder and that is not the problem. His settings in groups.io are to receive single emails. Other members are receiving his posts, and no one else has reported this problem in the group. Has anyone encountered this before?

Many thanks

Some email providers, such as GMail, don't send listmail that originated
with the recipients email address.

That might be what is happening here.

Peter,

I have a member who is not receiving his own posts to the group. He has checked his spam folder and that is not the problem. His settings in are to receive single emails.

One possibility is the "Gmail effect". Gmail tends to hide the message that returned from the group because the original (as sent) copy it is already in the conversation. Even with conversation mode turned off. If his email service is Gmail (or a rebranding of the Gmail interface) he'll likely find the returned messages tucked into the Sent folder instead of his Inbox. He can spot this case by posting from your group's web interface; if he receives those but not the messages posted from his email interface then there's a work-around for this in Groups.io: have him check the I always want copies of my own emails box on the Preferences page of his account.

Another possibility relates to email services that interpret a message from the outside (ie, delivered to them by Groups.io) which claims to be from their user as fraudulent. Most often those are delivered to Spam, but some services have been known to reject them outright. You can spot this case by looking at the Email Delivery History tab of his page in your group's Members list. You may find messages from him in his list of Recent Bounces.

Receive copies of your own emails posted to groups.

Thank you for previous responses.? Unfortunately this one member is still have this problem.? He has exhaustively checked the spam settings on his internet service provider server. Also checked his spam settings on his client computer.

Can someone confirm that the option mentioned above an earlier response, re: check box for 'receive copies of my own emails,' only appears as an option if the user has a Gmail address?? I do not see that setting in the preferences of this particular user, who is not a Gmail user. (he is using Big Pond, which is the Telstra email service (Australia)).

There are no bounce messages in his Email Delivery History.

I welcome any further ideas.

Peter

Ilene, re: your suggestion above, can you clarify, can only the particular user see this check box?? Am I able to see it as moderator, for that particular user?? Or do I need to ask the user to go to their own preferences and make the change.

Thank you
Peter

It appears for all users.

I do not see that setting in the preferences of this particular user,
It is in the user's Account Preferences page, not their Subscription. You cannot see anyone else's account preferences.

I believe only the member can change that setting so you would have to tell the member that wants their mail sent to them to check it off themselves.?

That I do not know the answer to as I use a gmail email address.
I do know that gmail usually doesn't send copies of ones email back to the user. Some other email providers do send one's own messages back to them automatically where gmail doesn't.

I must be thick but I cannot see where the I always want copies of my own emails check box is.? Is it on the Advanced Preferences page?? If so I cannot see it.? I would be grateful if someone could guide me through the steps of each page to click through to find this preference box.
Thank you
Peter

Peter,

Select Account from the login dropdown (top right corner)
Preferences - It's at the bottom of the page.

This is an Account setting, not a Subscription setting.

Look for a blue pull-down menu at the far upper right, displaying either your name or your email address and a down-arrow. Click on that and select Account. On the resulting page, select Preferences from the left-side menu. The "always want copies" checkbox is near the bottom of the Preferences page. Be sure to click Update Preferences when you are done.

Hope this helps,
Bruce?

I have Gmail and sometimes i get copies of my own emails from various groups and sometimes I don't. But per the instructions, at least with my display, I can select Account in the manner suggested but then it differs.

On the resulting page Preferences in not on a left side menu and there is no drop down menu on the left.[see attached image] Preferences is in a section on the right with a heading and a gear wheel. The heading is active. When I click on it I am taken to a page called Preferences. "Set up your account so it works for you," is at the top of the page. It's not active. [see image attached] The words "always want copies" do not appear on the page. (I don't see them and I did a word search.) There is no checkbox. Peter if you're a bit thick you have company!

I am attaching two screen caps showing what I see.

You're looking at your Google account.? The setting being discussed is in your Groups.io account.

When this box is ticked and you still do not receive copies of your e mails........what is causing this as this is happening to me across several groups.
I think there is a genuine problem here and nobody has the answer.
