Can a group be Renamed?

? Is it possible to rename a groups.io group?

Sure! (as long as the name you want isn't already taken)? Go to the Settings page and change the Group Title there.? You'll probably want to change the Group Email Address to match the new name.

However as far as I can see there¡¯s no way to change the group¡¯s site URL, which could be rather confusing to members. Why? Because I for one can never remember the site URL because I rarely go there, so when I need to I usually just type the group name into ?the browser¡¯s address field and? the correct address appears in the suggestions list. But after changing the name I¡¯d have to remember to type the old name. Not a big deal, but potentially annoying.

?

On the other hand if you could change the URL, then all the links at the end of all the historical email posts in members¡¯ inboxes would no longer be valid, which would be much worse.

?

But maybe I¡¯m worrying about nothing¡

Richard,

URL, ...
Changing the Group Email Address also changes its site URL correspondingly. The two are always matched.

On the other hand if you could change the URL, then all the links at
the end of all the historical email posts in members¡¯ inboxes would no
longer be valid, which would be much worse.
That, plus their bookmarks. Plus the corresponding email addresses in old messages and their address book. All good reasons to avoid changing the Group Email Address once the group has more than a few members.

Thanks for the additional info Shal.

I was interested in this topic myself because I thought I might want to change the name of one of my groups, following a potential change of a product name, but I decided against it for precisely these reasons (though as you point out I was wrong about the site URL).
