A few questions about the yahoo change

A few things my fellow mods and I have been wondering about, I haven't seen anyone specifically address them, perhaps someone knows?
1) Will digests stop after October 28? Or after December 13?
2) If someone is still on digest after they stop, will they just get no emails?
3) Is there any easy way to switch 800+ accounts???

4) Will online editing of posts continue after Oct 28/Dec 13? (which?) And if not, it seems like there would be no way to edit posts?

5) Looks like the member list will still be on the site, and editable - correct??

6) "No attachments" - will attachments to emails be allowed through the system as a post?

Thanks?
Sally

Sally, your questions are about what will happen on YahooGroups. I don't have the answers but likely someone else will.

If you are interested in finding out about moving your group to Groups.io, you might find this useful:?

Looks like the questions should be addressed to someone who knows the plans of Yahoo.
One quick solution to keep the continuity of the group's activities, would be to setup a GIO premium account and transfer member email addresses manually. This can be done very quickly. Once the membership email addresses are moved, members can continue to post messages and respond to them. This is what I have done for yahoo group.

Sally,

A few questions about the yahoo change
These may be covered in the Yahoo GroupManagersForum:

and would be more appropriate there.

That said (since you aren't a member of Y!GMF or YGOG):

1) Will digests stop after October 28? Or after December 13?
Good question. Pessimistically the 28th.

I think it depends on whetherthey stop storing even conversations at that point. If so then they'll have no copies of the messages from which to form digests.

2) If someone is still on digest after they stop, will they just get
no emails?
Another good question. I'm advising people switch their memberships to Individual Emails as soon as practical just in case.

3) Is there any easy way to switch 800+ accounts???
Tedious, but not difficult:

4) Will online editing of posts continue after Oct 28/Dec 13? (which?)
And if not, it seems like there would be no way to edit posts?
I presume you mean editing of Pending messages.

Again, good question. Yahoo says "admins will continue to have limited access to group settings and administration tools" - but which tools they haven't said. I'm optimistically hoping it includes all of the functions of the Pending Members list.

5) Looks like the member list will still be on the site, and editable
- correct?
Again, good question. I have to assume it will because it is the most fundamental administrative tool.

6) "No attachments" - will attachments to emails be allowed through
the system as a post?
I assume that means no storage for attachments, but that emails will go through with their attachments intact. Just as a precaution I'm setting my groups to:
HTML - Include Attachments in Email

Hi Shal,
I just wrote a message to Frances about having a hard time issuing an invite to the transfer agent. Could you advise? My subscription email address to our yahoo group was different from the one I used to join . I just changed it on Yahoo to match the one on ?and reissued the invitation but the status box still says no invitation ?is being processed or completed. I¡¯m stuck and frustrated. I don¡¯t know what to do.
?
I¡¯m a member of GMF at Yahoo and used to be a member of YGOG.

Also keep in mind that transfer is going to take time. It may be a week or more. Someone who has inside track will be able to tell us about the backlog and continued rush of new conversions.

That doesn't matter in the slightest.

... and reissued the invitation but the status box still says no

The prior steps of setting up the transfer set up the automation to expect an invitation from the group name you specified. So once the invitation is received that status notice should change promptly (from "Make sure you have sent an invite to your group for the user [email protected] ..." to "We've received the invite ..."

I can only think of two possibilities here: a typo when you entered the address into the Yahoo Group's Invite page, or Yahoo is backlogged in sending out Invitations. Notwithstanding the possible uptick in Invitations I'm skeptical of a backlog, as even Yahoo's automation should be able to handle that.

Have a look at the screenshots in GMF's step-by-step and see if anything seems out of place compared to what you are seeing. Then let us know.

From your Yahoo group; try "Add" (as opposed to "Invite").

"Invite" requires a .com address.

That was my experience and solution.

My invitation was confirmed received about 12 hours ago and I'm patiently waiting for next step. I see over 200 new groups were added just yesterday, so the transfer agents will be busy!

Hope this helps,

Alan

[Moderator note: The groups.io instructions clearly state to send an invitation.]

If you sent an invitation and that's what worked, then clearly that is the process others should follow.

Bruce

Shal -
You nailed it. It wasn¡¯t quite a typo, it was that I¡¯d included the ?domain when I put in the Yahoo group¡¯s email address! So now the ¡°existing transfers¡± box says?
? ? ? You have 1 transfer in process or completed.

The screen shots were exactly what ?needed. ?I did not notice if the notice at the top of the page changed to say ¡°We¡¯ve received the invite¡¡± I hope it did.

I don¡¯t have the email from ?either but hopefully it will show up. Are they taking days to show up?

As of now, ¡°transfer¡± has not shown up as a member of the yahoo group either but guess I¡¯ll just have to wait.

I realized we have a second group that was set up on yahoo some years ago to hold files and photos we had no room for. This was before Yahoo gave us more storage space. I need to transfer it to ?too. It could possibly become a subgroup under our main group, but I¡¯m just not ready to tackle that now. Do I have to pay another $110 to do this? I hope not.

Thank you Shal. As always you are a great fixer of problems!!

Susan,

The first time I tried to invite to join my YG I had the same issue. Long story short, I believe the problem was a typo on my part. I may well have sent the first invite to groups.i.o. (note the extra period). I suspected, and Don strongly suggested, that if the transfer status bar on the page didn't acknowledge receipt of my invitation then they probably didn't get it. So, I sent a second invitation, taking extra care with the address, and the transfer status bar on the .io page very quickly changed to a confirmation that my invitation had been received.?

Mine too, but as of a few minutes ago, transfer is still not a member. My transfer status was accepted and they are ready to proceed but I cannot make transfer a moderator if he is not a member. <grin>
Hoping for better results tomorrow.
