Discerning full use members vs email-only members
Hello all - I'm a group owner w several thousand members - but the vast majority of these are just subscribed via email and are not taking advantage of the group homepage and all of its features.? I'm trying to do a couple things.. First I'd like to be able to discern who does and who doesn't have a full membership. And secondly is there a common set of directions for email-only members to apply for full group page membership?? Jean? |
Jean, First I'd like to be able to discern who does and who doesn't have a full membership. They all do. In Groups.io there's no email-only distinction. A member may or may not have logged into the site yet, but that doesn't change the status of their membership.
It is much simpler than most people expect: all they need to do is Log In. Their account was set up automatically, with no password. They can use the button on the Log In page to log in. Setting a password is optional. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Shal, wouldn't having an account without a password be a security issue?? Someone aware of a persons account existence could hijack an account by logging in, setting a password then even change the email address if they wished?? I have encouraged users to take advantage of the features of the web interface such as photos and databases but I've never suggested that they at least login once to set a password for security. Unless someone has hacked the email account, they can't log in that way. I don't think an account being highjacked is either easy or likely. Chris |
John,
Shal, wouldn't having an account without a password be a securityAs Duane said, no. Someone aware of a persons account existence could hijack anAgain no. The only way for that someone to log in as the member would be to intercept the link emailed to the member. And if a crook can do that the member's security is pretty much "game over". That would make the member's accounts at all kinds of services vulnerable, not just Groups.io. I have encouraged users to take advantage of the features of the webThere's no need to do so. They don't need to log in unless or until they want to access something in the group's members-only sections.
