I inadvertently deleted my group and would like to get it reactivated.? Is that possible? How?? Or do I just wait "some" period of time and re-create it?? How long could "some" period of time be?

No.

You could try contacting support ([email protected]), but it's a long-shot.

How long group names are held before they become available again is unknown. You can re-create it now, but you'll have to name it something else.

I know of a couple that were deleted about 3 years ago and still aren't available.

If it is possible (I assume it is), you will have to contact [email protected] about it

No, that way you'd lose all members

"Disaster recovery" is the reason I periodically export my group data [settings>export group data]. Even if the group somehow evaporates, at least I have most of the information I need to recreate it.

Well, it might be useful, but it is hard to actually delete your group by error. You are warned, told it is not recoverable (or some similar language) and then you have to agree to delete the group.

I wonder whether the original poster perhaps is logging in with the wrong email address and thus doesn't see their groups.

I indicated my group was inadvertently deleted.? Wasn't sofware or site issue which gives plenty of warnings. It was my mistake misunderstanding the group need for that name.

First off, thank you for admitting the mistake.? It gives us a chance to remind folks that they shouldn't delete a group with a name that might be useful/needed in the future.? Renaming it to some gibberish name before deleting will keep the original available.

Would it make sense to use a similar name for the group?? Maybe My-Group instead of MyGroup?? Or MyGroups?? If that's not a good option, you could try contacting [email protected] to see if they'd release the name.? Sending your request from the email address you used to create (and delete) the group may carry some weight.? Just a guess, but you may be able to get it back, especially if it was only used for minimal testing.? I think you'd be starting from scratch instead of 'reinstating' it.

I must have blundered into doing something right. As a newbie I porting a group from Yahoo, I created a like-named group here. After several attempts to complete the port the way I wanted to, I finally got a good transfer. But I wanted the message numbers in the new group to match the Yahoo message numbers so inter-message references worked (e.g., see Message #553).

So I renamed my group with a "Test-" prefix and immediately afterwards created a new group with the original name. There were no issues creating the second group. I was going to delete the Test- group but two new moderators wanted to use it to experiment with the calendar so it remains active for now.

Yep, that works.? Renaming a group makes the original name available immediately.? The 'problem' pops up if you delete a group.? Whatever the name is when it's deleted isn't available for 'some' time.
