An announcement from PG Offline - Y! group transfer extension!?

Hi,

I just received this from PG Offline. Make of it what you will.

Hi All,

I have it on good authority that Verizon have extended the Yahoo Groups deadline to January 31st.

Wait for an official announcement from Yahoo before slacking off your downloading!

Also I hear that?PG Offline has been UN-blocked for all USA-based IP ranges.

Which is nice!

The PGO-2-GIO program is in development hell but I expect us to break through in the next couple of days.

Whither PGO when Verizon finally pulls the plug?

Plans are afoot to transition PGO to a new data source and a new revenue model.

PGO's Achilles heel has always been its perpetual licence.??

Perpetual licences are OK for Paint programs but not for an app that depends on a 3rd party data source that could change at any time.?

Therefore, moving forward, the new PGO will transition to multiple data sources starting with Groups.io and Facebook groups (maybe also Google groups & phpBB) and it will move to a subscription model.

I'm thinking.. $24.95 initial with $10 a year thereafter?? With no payment needed for anyone who registered within the last 12 months.

If you didn't register in the last 12 months but do have PGO then to move to the new PGO will be $10.?

You can stay with the old PGO.? It'll still read, sort & search your existing downloaded YG data.

And you can swap data with other PGO users using the Export & Import functions.

Moving to the new PGO is not mandatory.

Cheers,

Wilson.

Regards,
Andy

Great.
PGO needs to be on a self sustaining business model. Nothing is free in life.
We need to support all good efforts at reasonable price and the people who work on them need money to for food and shelter.

The way I read it, Yahoo will continue to allow you to request a download of your data via the Privacy Dashboard thru Jan 31 but still plans to take all online content down on Dec 14.?

So how good is the Yahoo download? I've submitted three requests to Yahoo for my content. The first time I got nothing. The second time I got most of my messages and files, but none of the photos or links, no attachments, and it took two weeks. The third time it only took two days, but still no photos, and only one attachment out of the six groups.

If you want attachments and photos, I?suspect you still have only 4 days to get your data using PGO. No sympathy for procrastinators.

Some PG Offline users are experiencing being locked out.

PG Offline was, for me, able today to download some messages from one
group. I believe there has been new content added for one or two other
of my groups but it only found new messages in one.

At one pint it told me there was a server issue or I was locked out.
Then PGO continued with the rest of the groups but there were no more
messages found.

Glad I got them a few weeks ago and kept up with refreshing my groups
every few days.

I submitted a request on Saturday using my xxx@... email address and received a link on Monday to a 1.6GB zip file. This appears to have at least most of the content from the last twenty years from all the groups I'm still subscribed to, including files, photos, and links.

Most of the photos were saved as "files", but one group had "photos_and_attachments".

I did find that the links were not clickable, giving an "invalid target" message, but when opened in a text editor the content was correct. Here's an example:

My experience is similar.

In each group I received all messages, gathered in one or more mbox file per group. But in no group did I receive all Files or Photos, not even all of "mine" (the ones I uploaded), though in some groups I did receive some Files and photos_and_attachments. I did get links in some groups, but no Database or Calendar entries in any. The Members list is also not included for any group.

PG Offline also omits Database and Calendar entries. Manual download is the only method I know of for those.

Bruce,
?
True statement ...
?
"...If you want attachments and photos, I suspect you still have only 4 days to get your data using PGO. No sympathy for procrastinators."

We've done the PGOffline aka PGO and the Yahoo Download.? PGO will get all the photos AND put them into albums per the metadata of the YG member who uploaded them.? BUT, not sure who on my end actually did that because our owner and mods left back in 2009.? Still got it ALL thanks to PGO !!!

As for the Databases, you need to DL them from your YG yourself right on that Database page.? Click on the ability to DL as a CSV file that can easily import to Excel or OpenOffice.
