Calendar features questions
1. Is there any way to copy an existing Calendar entry and use that to create a new one? The specific case I'm looking at has a 4-day event that is presented twice a day. I've created the events for the earlier time and would like to duplicate that and change the start / end times for the second set of presentations.
2. If I set a reminder for the event, will it be sent before each day? (I ended up having to create an event that repeats for the 4 days. With a reminder say 5 days before the event, will it send one 5 days before the first day, then 5 days before the second day, and so forth?) 3. Is there any provision to attach a flyer or other image to a calendar event? Thanks, Su |

What I do is open the "template event" in one browser tab and cut-and-paste the contents of each field manually into the "new event" dialog in another browser tab, changing things as necessary. It is burdensome, and hopefully someone smarter than me has come up with a better way. 2. If I set a reminder for the event, will it be sent before each day? Is there any provision to attach a flyer or other image to a calendar event? Not really. You can embed an <img> tag for a photo hosted on another site and have it show up in the Event Description, but if the photo is subsequently moved or deleted a broken link will show instead. The process is kinda weird and unreliable, see?/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/31532132#16547?for details. I don't know if it would work for a PDF or any other data type. If you try it, please report back on what you find out. Bruce |

Ooooh, I tried putting in an img in the description and it came out great. I was able to reference an image in the photos section. 1) Find the photo in your photos section, and right-click on the download tab (I¡¯m in Firefox), which let¡¯s me ¡°copy link¡± 2) Strip everything off the end from the ¡°?¡± that link, and you have the URL of the image. 3) Edit the calendar event, go advanced, and source code, and put in <img src=¡°/g/yourgroup/photo/nnnnnn/n/photoname.jpg¡±/>. (or whatever) If you make a ¡°flyer¡± for your event, it looks pretty good. Gilbert |
Gilbert,
Ooooh, I tried putting in an img in the description and it came outYou might want to double-check that the image is visible to a member who receives the notification or reminder by email, and is not logged in to Groups.io (or is not using a web-based email interface). I'm thinking that such an URL might be unavailable if one isn't logged in, because the Photos section is normally a members-only function. But I don't know if Groups.io enforces that rule at the level of the image URLs, or only on the page URLs. Attempting it brings up a log - in page, which once completed reveals the individual image. Chris |

Bottom line is that you really need to host the image somewhere else if you want to ensure the desired behavior. Again, see?/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/31532132#16547 Bruce |

And the lack of a stable URL makes it even worse. I was able to insert an image into a wiki page, made the wiki publicly-viewable, and then the url became something like: /g/mygroup/wikiimage/nnnn That did work. The image was viewable in my mail program. I don¡¯t know if the wikiimage is a static URL or not, but at this point you¡¯re right, it¡¯s just too convoluted and dicey to attempt this and it's better to simply host the image elsewhere. Interesting (and annoying) about the changing links to photos in albums. Good to know, though. It's a continuing request to have permalinks to photos so they don't move around, similar to what is on messages.? Maybe one day... I hope that request does get implemented!
Reporting back on another part of my original questions. 2. If I set a reminder for the event, will it be sent before each day? (I ended up having to create an event that repeats for the 4 days. With a reminder say 5 days before the event, will it send one 5 days before the first day, then 5 days before the second day, and so forth?)Answer: YES. (So Bruce was correct.) This behavior makes sense for events that repeat say weekly or monthly, but for a 4-day event, it really doesn't. I guess I could work around it by making two separate events - one for the first day, with a reminder, and another for the remaining days, with no reminder. A bit clunky but still doable. Su |

A bit clunky but still doable.Su -- That would certainly work. Consider also setting up a single, all-day event that spans multiple days (as opposed to a recurring event). This will give you a single reminder notification for the first day as desired, with the downside that the start/end times for each day will not appear on the calendar. Bruce |

A slight improvement might be to put the start time on the first day and the end time on the last day. Honestly don't know if that's better or worse, though. Thanks, Su |
Only an idea. Maybe it is possible to setup a subgroup as a anouncement group. Set this group to be readable for anyone, writable only for mods. Then link a anouncement topic to the calender subject. Could this work to see then a embeded photo without loging in? Isidro ? Am 23.11.2019 um 13:57 schrieb Bruce Bowman:
