Migration complete! Have hope!

Some good news for all of you anxious about your migration from Yahoo.

I'm happy to report that last week I created my first forum here, upgraded to Premium for $110, and then initiated the steps for Groups.io to do the migration:??/static/transfer?and?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups.

Be sure to carefully read and follow the steps on the above pages.

Today our new group.io is fully migrated and active, including:

  • 7,000 messages, properly owned and properly threaded
  • 1,300 members
  • 100 MB of files, attachments, and photos

Given the workload that Yahoo's closure is causing, and differences in forums, your results may be different.

But, have hope!? Migration WORKS and the team at groups.io is clearly working to clear the backlog.

Tom

Good to hear.? Can you be more specific when you said you kicked this off "last week"??? What day, specifically??? Your group sounds like mine, albeit mine has about 5 times as many folks in it.

Hi, Rich,?

I hope you'll forgive me for my vagueness specifying how long it took for my site to be migrated.

I was deliberately vague about the specific timing because I don't want people expecting the same timing. Nor do I want them posting something like, "Well,?his?was migrated in "x" days. Why has mine taken longer?"

It's notoriously difficult to schedule these kinds of processes, especially when huge tidal waves of sites and data show up unexpectedly as is happening now that Yahoo pulled the plug.

The purpose of my post was just to assure people migrations are happening, that they're happening relatively quickly, and that groups.io?is working behind the scenes to make it happen. I've had no contact with groups.io other than initiating the migration using the links in the OP.

Fair enough. I guess I¡¯ll just keep plugging along.?
