Owner not showing up on member list

I believe I have seen this issue discussed here before, but I come up with nothing when I do a message search.? I am the owner of a group.? Why do I not show up on the member list?

Thanks,
Maureen

Maureen,

I am the owner of a group.? Why do I not show up on the member list?

If you're looking at the Members list of a subgroup, you may be an implicit owner of the subgroup, rather than formally a member of it. If you want to see yourself in the subgroup, go to the primary group and find yourself in the Subgroups page (the one in your primary group's Admin pages). Put a checkmark in your row, in the column for that subgroup.

If you're looking at the Members list of a primary group, then I'm not sure how you could be missing, unless you're not looking for the address under which you actually own the group.

I can think of no reason why you should not be present. Go to Admin>Members. On the resulting screen, pull down the blue "Members" menu at top left and select "Moderators." With the list of records thus restricted you should be able to find yourself.

If you cannot get to Admin>Members then you either don't have Owner permissions or you aren't logged in.
?
Hope this helps,
Bruce

Hi Shal and Bruce,

We have no subgroups so I am looking at the primary Members list.? I am the owner/moderator.? I am listed at the upper right of the screen with the email address I used to create my Groups.io account.? I am listed under the "Moderators" tab of the Members page under Admin>Members as Owner.

Sorry, I should have given more details and worded my question a bit differently.? When the group was created I imported a list of members from our abandoned Yahoo! Group.? I was on that list of people, BUT I was using a different email for the Yahoo! Group.? So, actually I am on the primary Members list, but this different email address is attached to it.? I am unable to change that address on Groups.io to the one listed at the top of the screen because I get a message that the email is already in use.? I am getting messages on both email accounts.? As I look at the page, I am at the top right of the screen with one email and on the Members list with another email.? It's becoming confusing as the group gets busier.

Any thoughts?? Does Groups.io think I am two different people?? Will things get more confusing if I delete myself with the unwanted Yahoo! email and re-invite myself using the Owner email?? Help!

Thanks again,
Maureen

Maureen,

Does Groups.io think I am two different people??

Yes, that is exactly the case.

Each email address used at Groups.io is tied to its own Groups.io account, and has its own set of subscriptions.

As I look at the page, I am at the top right of the screen with one email and on the Members list with another email.?

In your case you have two subscriptions in the group, using two different email addresses. One of them is a group Owner (the one that created the group) and the other isn't (the one copied in from Y!Groups). When you're logged in using the Owner address you'll see an Owner badge on the Home page button for your group:

Both addresses should appear in the in the Members list, but only the Owner one should appear in the Moderators list. The default sort for the Members list is by joined date, most recent at the top. The address that created the group would then be at the end of the list. T
o make it easier to find the Owner address in the Members list you can click on the Joined column header to reverse the sort order, or click on one of the other column headers, or use the Search box.

Will things get more confusing if I delete myself with the unwanted Yahoo! email and re-invite myself using the Owner email?

The email address listed as an owner is already a member and doesn't need to be re-invited to the group, so I'm a little confused by that part of your question.

Removing the Y!Mail address would be the simplest way to clarify things, but it has some downsides.

That subscription owns the content (Files and Photos) transferred over from Y!Group under its address. As a group owner your other address can edit and delete that content anyway, so that isn't such a big deal. If you were a mere member of the group you might be more interested in retaining your ability to edit or delete those items.

There is a vulnerability if your group has only one account listed as Owner, if something happens to that account. If you've not promoted anyone else in the group to Owner position, and you're not yet ready to do so, you might rather promote the subscription of your Y!Mail address to the Owner role so that the group has two Owners. That still leaves the group vulnerable because there's only one person behind those two Owner subscriptions, but at least it is safe from some kind of problem with one of the two accounts.

If receiving group messages at both addresses is annoying, you can always set one of them to No Email, and uncheck all of its Moderator Notices. As owner you can do that through the Members list by clicking on the row for that subscription. Or, you can use the Subscription page to edit the subscription of whichever email address you are currently logged in with.

Hi Shal,

Well, I am completely embarrassed here.? As we decided to test this venue with just a small closed group of our active art guild rather than the large virtual discussion group as we had on Yahoo!, the members list is currently very short.? We wanted to see how we liked Groups.io before expanding it.? Long story short, part of what was puzzling me was that I was NOT seeing my name/email as the owner on the Members list because it was in chronological order and it turns out I was the ONLY one listed on page 2 (oops).? All this time I had been wondering why the owner wouldn't be listed, but just chalked it up to being a quirk of the site.? Nobody else was really "missing" so I never bothered to scroll down far enough to click over to another page.? DUH!!!? I didn't pursue it until yesterday when I made one of the other members an owner and she was still on the list with "Owner" next to it.? That's when I decided to delve in and ask some questions.

I did not do a true migration of our whole Yahoo! Group?for a variety of reasons, mainly because that group had a different owner who was out of the picture and there was a ton of old stuff we didn't want to carry over.? We wanted a fresh start so I simply copied an email list of the members we were moving over and auto-added them to our Groups.io account to avoid the invitation process.? So, I don't think there will be any serious consequences of removing my second "Yahoo!" membership here, but please let me know if you think otherwise with this additional info.??

Thanks once again for your timely response, and I'm terribly sorry that I took up your time with what ended up to be a really dumb question.

Have a great day,
Maureen??

In your particular case, you might want to change your Preferences under your Account to show 50 Items Per Page.? (This effects messages, databases, etc.)? It may again become a 'problem' when you have 51 members, but hopefully by then you'll be quite familiar with Groups.io. ;>)

Duane, thanks for the suggestion :) .? I'll try "Infinite Scroll" for a while and see how it works.? The multi-page thing has caught a few members already who failed to scroll down to the very bottom.? I must say that there's something about the layout of the page that tricks my brain into thinking the list is complete.? It will just take some getting used to, but we'll get there!
Thanks!

I'll try "Infinite Scroll" for a while and see how it works.
I tried ¡°infinite Scroll¡±, however there was something about it (I forget what) that did not apply universally as do all the finite choices. I now use "100 per page¡±.

Michael,
You're right..."infinite?scroll" does not work on databases.? We have a database with 38 rows that displayed on 2 pages with "infinite scroll" setting.? Switched to "100 per page" and now on one page.? Thanks again for the tip on finding that option!

Maureen,

We wanted a fresh start so I simply copied an email list of the
members we were moving over and auto-added them to our Groups.io
account to avoid the invitation process.
Do you mean Direct Add, and that you didn't actually use the Easy Group Transfer process?

So, I don't think there will be any serious consequences of removing
my second "Yahoo!" membership here, but please let me know if you
think otherwise with this additional info.
Nope.

If there is (and will be) no content (Files, Photos) copied into your Groups.io group by the transfer agent then I don't see any consequence to removing your Y!Mail membership.

... until yesterday when I made one of the other members an owner ...
That took care of the one advantage you might have gained by keeping a second address in the group.

Shal,
Yes, I meant that I used Direct Add using an email list.? I did not use the Easy Group Transfer process.
