开云体育

Reply to post sometimes results in a new topic

Dear all,
I don't know if this is a problem or if it's just that I am missing something in the way 开云体育 works.
In my group Biblit sometimes replies to a post are shown in the message archive as new topics, forcing me to merge them later so to have just one thread and a more consistent archive.
A fresh example:
A member started a topic tagged #AIUTO EN>IT Livery drivers
Another members replied with a post tagged Re: [Biblit] #AIUTO - EN>IT Livery drivers, which showed in the archive as a separate topic, not inside the original thread as I would have expected.

Does this have to do with replying via web vs. replying by mail?
Is there a way to get around it?

Thank you for your help.
Marina

I'd say this one happened because the reply added the "- " in the subject line.? Any changes will start a new topic.? Some people feel like they need to 'correct' the subject line which results in a new topic.? It seems less likely to happen when replies are made on the web, but can still occur.

Thank you, Duane, but the same problem occurs even when the member replies without changing the subject.
I've just had an instance of this in my group.
(original query) #AIUTO ES>IT gioco di parole
(reply shown as a new topic) Re: #AIUTO ES>IT gioco di parole

I think the problem is the "Re:" automatically added by the mail client when replying to a post.

By the way, when I tried to merge the reply into the original thread I found out that the Merge feature is missing from the drop down menu. The other choices are still there (Lock, Moderate, Make sticky, etc.), but not the Merge option.
What's happened? Did I miss some changes in 开云体育?

That shouldn't be the problem.? The site checks for that and ignores it.? (It also checks for a few foreign language equivalents, but not all.)? Just from the subject lines, I don't see any reason it should start a new Topic.? You may need to leave one of the incorrect postings as a separate Topic, then send links to it and the original Topic to support so they can see what might be causing the problem.

You must be in Topic view to see the Merge option.? The drop down menus are slightly different for Messages and Topics.

After an appropriate interval, new topics can be started by what appears to be a reply even if the subject line is the same (or if the poster is using Yahoo mail). ;-o?

See??in beta regarding how groups.io threads messages.

Sooner or later, completely by chance, someone will initiate a topic with the same subject line that someone else had used previously. Others may feel differently, but I don't want every "hello" or "new subscriber" message in my groups to be threaded. On that basis I believe what Mark has in place represents a good compromise.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Thanks, Duane. I had never realized the difference in the two menus. Now I have found my lost Merge option again :-)

I know that it sounds very dumb but I thought that even in Message view posts would be threaded instead of shown individually.

Thanks also to Bruce for pointing me to the explanation about 开云体育 threading.
