DISABLING THE MUTING OF THREADS
Richard Bartholomew
Hi,
I have just created my first group and wish to be able to switch off a member's ability to mute a topic as this is not desirable for this private group. Is it possible to do this, please? I see there is a link at the bottom of each message to allow this but, to date, haven't been able to find a way of either disabling it or editing the footer to remove the link! Thanks for any advice Richard Bartholomew |
Richard,
Group members only mute receipt in their own mailbox. It does not affect delivery to other members nor does it stop the appearance of the topic or posts on the group site. It allows members to manage the flow of email to their inbox. I do suggest you disallow ¡°no mail¡± as an option, if you haven¡¯t already done so. I have also set groups I started to the options that send only the first email in a thread and then allow members to opt into (¡°follow¡±) a topic. Frances |

I should also note that muting only applies to email delivery. Messages will still appear on the site.
Not entirely clear on why you would want to do this. Even if you could force a subscriber to be sent all the emails, there's no way to prove that they were even received, much less read. Hope this helps, Bruce |

Thanks for the tip on nomail - I spotted that one! ? It was being able to stop individual's opting out of a thread that I was wanting to do rather than muting it for all. Thanks Richard -----Original Message-----

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYes, that was my hope, too! ? I take your other point but would still like to be able to do it, anyway!? This is a very small group set up for discussion of a specific subject matter and, therefore, allowing people to opt out of individual topics is inappropriate to the business of the group. ? It¡¯s a shame that this isn¡¯t a configurable item at list owner level. ? Richard ? ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Bruce Bowman ? ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks, Bruce ? You¡¯re probably right but, given the nature of this private group and the level of technical knowledge of the majority (I know all the members), I doubt they would bother going to that extent!? Which brings us back to your first point¡most people wouldn¡¯t bother with or know what to do with that link in the footer! ? So, as this type of configuration doesn¡¯t seem possible, I¡¯ll go and find out how to close this topic! ? Richard ? ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Bruce Bowman ? Even then, the recipient could set up an email filter. You're trying to control something that is not in your control anyway. |
