Groups.io icon - SVG format -- is there one?

Hi there,

We're in the process of replacing all the Yahoo references on our website with Groups.io now that we've switched. We have a Y! icon in the footer, which now needs to be replaced with the Groups.io envelope icon. Is there an SVG of this available? Or only the PNG that is in use here on the Groups.io website?

Thank you!

Maria,

There are several online sites that can change image files to svg. For example, you can select this png file ( /img/org.1/mainlogo.png?) and have it converted to an svg file such as this. Of course, it would look better when the background is not white.

The logo originated in a contest at 99designs. Clicking through to their site I don't see any ability for us (the public) to download the image in any form. Which makes sense, only the owner of the image should have that ability.

It seems likely to me that only Mark has access to any quality better than what you find on the site's pages.

My suggestion of using an online image conversion site turned out to be a very poor idea. It appears that most, if not all, of the online sites use the same CAD program that embeds a watermark into the resultant image. A sort of ransomware, I guess.

Perhaps an svg file isn't really necessary and the png file (?/img/org.1/mainlogo.png?) would be sufficient.

Just a professional observation here. I can see the real value in using SVG (scalable vector graphics) files. Such a file holds its sharpness, regardless of the size it's displayed, and often in a smaller file than a bitmap. However I don't know if groups.io can even accept SVG files for display`.

The groups.io logo, while attractive, is not technically difficult to recreate. I, and certainly others here, have the capability to redraw the logo in a vector format and export it as an SVG file. But unless anyone knows what rights Mark has and what restrictions the original image has, no reputable graphic designer would touch it. I'm a strong believer in copyrights and I'm very certain Mark is as well. Such things can get a site shut down quicker than anything. However Mark might be able to obtain an SVG version of the logo from the creator, under license, for use by member groups.
