Stuck in NC status
#membership
I have two members in NC status. They apparently accepted a group invitation on the web; but if I understand correctly, with their email addresses unconfirmed by groups.io, group messages will not be sent to them.
This is particularly annoying as I have the group set up with the "no email" option disabled. It seems that these folks have stumbled across a work-around. They may be happy with this, but I am not. I'd appreciate any suggestions as to the best way to remedy this. Thanks much, Bruce |
Bruce,
I have two members in NC status. They apparently accepted a groupI didn't think one could accept an invitation and remain NC. But that's not the point here... ... but if I understand correctly, with their email addressesCorrect. This is particularly annoying as I have the group set up with the "noNot much of a work-around. They are effectively non-members: they cannot access any members-only areas of your group until they confirm their email address. Until they do, the top of every Groups.io page will have a red shaded warning box saying: "Your account is not confirmed. You will not be able to participate in any groups until your account is confirmed. Send another confirmation email." (That last sentence is a link) I'm not sure what happens if you try to send them a message through the Member's list. I'd appreciate any suggestions as to the best way to remedy this.Ignore them? Or, if you care about having them as members, at the bottom of their subscription page in your group's Members list is a button to send them another Confirmation Email. You can also use the Send Message button if you want to send an them an explanation. Bruce,
I wrote: I'm not sure what happens if you try to send them a message throughI forgot to delete that line. I tested it and it works (the NC address receives the message). Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Thanks as always, Shal! I guess it's reassuring that they aren't "really" members yet. |
Bruce,
Still a little confused, though. We are not a Premium group so theWhat I did was (in a logged out browser) click the "Join this group" button on GMF's home page, and supply an alternate email address. The hard part was finding an address of mine that is real, and yet not already registered at Groups.io... ;-) If your group is Restricted membership then some mod/owner would have had to approve the membership. If your group _were_ a premium group that would also have confirmed the address. But with a basic group the address remains NC. Also, if your group were a premium group the Direct Add would confirm the address. Good thing that, otherwise Direct Add wouldn't be much use.
