replacing photos in an existing thread
Have been asked whether it is possible to replace a photo/attachment in an existing thread & outside of a private album. All I can see is to delete the thread completely, but by doing this any new thread/photo will no longer be in sequence. As an owner of the group - I do not think even I can do this ? barry? |
I do not think you can replace an attachment to an existing post however, you as owner could delete just the attachment and edit the original post to say see reply with attachment, then reply to that post with the new attachment

The group would receive the reply with new attachment but you can explain the reason for that Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 06/05/2025 11:12, Barry via groups.io wrote:

If the attachment is something group members will refer to frequently (maybe it's in a pinned topic?), I suggest you upload it somewhere else (perhaps the Files area) and edit the message to provide a link to that location.
?
Advantage: If someone has the message bookmarked, their bookmark will still work.
Disadvantage: If you do place it in Files they'll have to log in, so it won't work to share anything with non-members.
?
Just another option,
Bruce

Or the person that sent the post with the wrong attachment, could send another another post with the right attachment, and say something like "Woops, I included the wrong attachment with my first post, and this is the one I meant to send." That's what I would also suggest, with the addition of after doing that, the mod (or the original poster if allowed) of that message edit the original online-posted message (using the Hamburger-More menu), to delete the erroneous photo attachment, and add a bold sentence in the message body text pointing about the photo being removed because it was the wrong one and the correct photo is in message 12345 further down this thread; the 12345 message number could also be hyperlinked to the permalink of the corrected-photo new message. When saving the edits I would also choose to resend the message to the group if it would be beneficial.

[Edit:? Barry, and this is an edit (I inserted another image?
[ OP: ]
Barry, you're not ¡°supposed¡± to be able to edit images. ?(There are pros and cons to that but, for better or worse, that's the decision.?
?
What I do is copy/paste my original post into a new message, include the proper image(s), and delete my original. ?It appears to everyone that it is the ssme message and is essentially seamless (except of course for the date.)? ?I make note of the edit ( [Edit:] ) so that everyone understands why the re-send was done.?
?
Using the web interface I have copy/pasted-in an image to edit a post, but that has been haphazard as to the result, AND, I understand that the Apps do not render such pasted images.?
?
Below is a pasted-in image using my PC/web interface to compose this message.
