exporting data

?
Hi friends,
?
1. Is it possible to get a list of all topics in my group as owner/admin and export it?
2. Is there an easy way to make a printable list of a selection of messages including its meta-data and message-number and (if possible) a picture of attachments?
?
Best regards,
Chris

Go to Admin > Preferences > Export Group ? and select the aspects of your group that you wish to export. Messages are exported in Mbox format and there are a variety of other applications that you could use to read them, including, I believe, Thunderbird.

Thanks Andy.
I noticed that.
1. I could find 'messages' to download, but not 'topics' to download.
2. Not only I want to view the messages, I also want to make a printable list of all selected messages incl. their attached pictures.
Best regards,
Chris

That could take some work on your part.? Attachments aren't visible within a message, other than the link to them using the thumbnail.? If pictures are embedded, then they'll be part of the message, though possibly at a reduced size.

Lots of detailed information can be found in the Owners Manual and Members Manual.

A topic is just a collection of one or more messages (with the same topic id). There's no option to just download selected topics.
2. Not only I want to view the messages, I also want to make a printable list of all selected messages incl. their attached pictures.

There's no option within Groups.io to make printable lists of selected messages so you would need to use the features from another application to do that.? If I open a topic with multiple messages in my browser (Firefox) and do a print screen (ctrl + p) then it will generate a multi-page preview that I can print which includes in-line images.? It won't show attached images though.
?
I also use a utility called and this has the ability to capture scrolling windows:

If I open a topic with multiple messages, I can use this to capture all the messages in a single page document. It'll give you a preview of what it has captured and you can crop out things like browser toolbars and footers etc. before saving it as a PDF or a one of a variety of picture formats. You can also send the capture to Word, Excel or PowerPoint.?? Again, though, it will capture in-line images as you see those on the screen but it will not open and show you attachments (which could be pictures or other documents).

Dear friends,
?
Thanks for all replies and advice!
?

Again about downloading message data and related information and topic data:
When I want to create an overview of all messages from the past year, it would be helpful to organize them by topic. Since each message is associated with a topic, and since all message numbers are known per topic, there must logically be a topic table¡ªat least containing the topic name¡ªand there should also be a reference linking topics to message numbers.

I understand from the messages that downloading this data is not currently possible, but it would be great if this functionality could be implemented in the future.

?

One more question: is it possible to download all attachments from a group at once?

?

Best regards,

Chris

Suggestions need to be made on the beta group in order for Groups.io management to see them.

I think you need to try the export function to see what you actually get.? Attachments are NOT one of the options, but they're included with each message.

topics have a number which forms part of the URL that you see in the address bar of your browser. For this topic on GMF it is 110644003. You can have multiple topics with the same subject.
?
?
If you wish to only extract certain topics and their associates messages, you can look to use the /gettopic endpoint of the API.? You'd need to write your own code to do that though. The /gettopic endpoint will return the messages for a specific topic in a Message List Object. You'll need to parse that and look for individual message objects. The body element of each message object should contain the message text:
?
?
Beyond that, you will also find an attachments element with details of any attachments the message has:

As Duane said, it could take some work on your part!

In a word, No.? Attachments are connected to messages so you need to get the message details as described above to get the download URL for each attachment.
?
You can view a list of all the attachments for your messages though with links back to the individual messages. If you have a Premium group, then go to Admin > Preferences > $ Billing and use the View Attachments link. If you have a free group, then it's Admin > Preferences > + Upgrade.
