Searching Photos

Can I have step by step instructions on how to search photos?
?
Thank you.
?

Just go to the Photos folder and enter the item that you want to find in the Search box at the upper right.? Chances are that you won't find it though.? People have a habit of uploading files with names like IMG_9084.JPG? or IMG_20230508_184944.jpg that don't really mean much rather than rename them to something useful.? Only file names are searched, not the descriptions.

Lots of detailed information can be found in the Owners Manual and Members Manual.

I've tried the author/poster
?
the email of the author/poster
?
copy/pasting the jpeg?
?

?
Nothing works. ?Could our group need attention? ?A fix of some sort?

Are you searching in Emailed Photos or Photo Albums?
You can sort the Emailed Photos, but no search box.
?
As Duane said, many people don't label their photos properly. The fix would be to request that people label the photos correctly when they upload them. And the labels are editable afterwards.
Also the photos can be put in albums.

And all Photo info in Help:

None of these will work.?

This should work, as should the file name.
?
From the docs:?
  • You can use the Search field and button at the upper right of the Photos page to search for photos. The search engine searches across all photo albums in the group (except the Emailed Photos album) for keywords in photo file names and descriptions."
?
My experience:?
  • If the keyword appears in either the file name or the description of a photo, it will be returned.
  • If the keyword appears in the title or description of an enclosing album, all photos in that album will be returned
  • If you want to get a match for "birthday," use something like "birth*" instead. The appended asterisk will make it match "birthday", "birthdays" and "birth."

Nothing works. ?
It works the way it was programmed to work. If you want changes to be made, that won't be accomplished by asking here. Please compose a clear statement of your expectations and post it as a #suggestion . Unlike GMF, that group is actually monitored by system admins.

Could our group need attention? ?A fix of some sort?
The situation is unchanged from the last time you asked this question.
?
Hope this helps,
Bruce

The key is "except Emailed Photos album" -- none are in any albums.
?
I did go to "working with photos". ?Scoured as best I could and didn't find "setting account preferences" or "items per page".
?
My apologies for "last time I asked this question". ?I forgot. ?I am older and self taught.
?
Thank you and Frances.

If you were to suggest -- in beta -- that the Emailed Photos "album" be included in the search, I think that would be totally reasonable.

You'll find those settings at /settings/prefs?

Many of us are! No problem.
