Sometimes an email server will bounce messages for reasons that only it understands. ;>)? You may be able to find a bit more information by looking at the email delivery history for you and the other

It would actually be better if they merged the accounts (into the 'new' one).? All posts and other things will be tied to the transferred email address, so if it's deleted, there won't be an owner
