I don't see any formal problems with that.? A couple of suggestions.? Set the group so that all messages are moderated.? Have the translator opt to receive a notice when there is a pending

Ken, I just tested - invited an email address to my test site. Accepted it. And I see in Welcome email in Email Delivery History for the new member. Unfortunately, you can't see it if it is too long

A lot of it depends on your facts and circumstances. I suspect you are looking for a certain type person to join your meetings and not just anyone. So, you need to think about where those people are
