You can't change their password for them. What they can do is use the 'Send me a link to login'? or Forgotten Password options.? Groups.io will send them an email with a link that will log them into

It seems you are not using Groups.io's interface to send the message about sponsorship. The help tells you how to set it up and suggests you set up an email notification for it - a group sponsorship

This used to happen all the time to people with gmail-addresses. Google's reasoning is that you sent the message, so you don't "need" a copy in your inbox. This is why the system at groups.io changes
