Looking for cable source - Try Cat8 cables
I recently fixed my 2nd Gemini1. The flat motor cables were intermittent. I made some cat5e cables 2.5' long and it seemed to work but I let it run on my bench for an hour and noticed the PWM signal (pin#5) on the RA drive IC give some really long pulses (simply put oscope in envelope mode) and the motor jerk for a brief moment. I had laying around a 15' long cat 6 cable and zero issue with 9 hours of bench running. After researching, I found cat8 cables are shielded pairs and cost the same (~$6 for a pair of 3' cables on Aliexpress), so I am using them w/o issue. |
开云体育The twisting of Ethernet patch cables differs from what Gemini needs. There could be spurious encoder ticks induced by PWM pulses if motor wires and encoder wires are paired. Not sure about cat8 cabling, but flat motor cables are O.K.搁别苍é Am 06.10.24 um 20:36 schrieb

I agree. I would think a 15 foot long motor cable would be worst case, so getting 3 foot ones should be better.
I have run the cat8 3 footers on the bench for 8~9 hours a day, and many days now w/o seeing the glitch. (to be fair, this is no load) But as you said, its not the technical proper way. So, what 8 conductor flat cable do i buy to make the proper cables?
What awg is the proper wire size?

You can buy flat single core of multi core RJ cable. ? Also a crimp tool and RJ45 terminal ends….crimp your own. ?Or try repairers to make them. ?
Be aware some RJ45 connectors are for solid core some for multi core. ? I guess it’s the crimp “teeth” difference. ? Or something. ?
I’ve made RJ to DIN cables for owners and plenty of RJ cables. ?Either RS232/ST4 & RJ 45. Not hard.?
cheers. ?FWIW

开云体育The connector IDC types (Insulation Displacement Contact) are for solid conductor and stranded conductor.? One can find “flat” wire – easier to crimp - ?but I have had poor results with long “flat wire” cables. -Will ?
