Hi All,
I'm based in Phoenix, AZ and I bought a used G11 from Stellarvision a little over a month ago. It is having the Gemini 2 mini control board. Today for the first time I setup its ASCOM driver on my PC and configured it to my current location in Phoenix and the current time as in attached screenshot. Then I slewed to the Moon through Cartes Du Ciel and it did slew but several degrees (30¡ã to 40¡ã I don't know exactly) to the west of where it was located. Basically it was around 30¡ã east of meridian but the mount slewed to the counterweight almost horizontal on the west side and my RASA 11 pointing very close vertical to Meridian slightly on the west side. I verified that the ASCOM driver hand controller window had matching RA and Dec coordinates with the RA and Dec coordinates of the Moon in Skysafari Plus running on my cellphone. But still it slewed several degrees west of the Moon. Similar symptoms it showed with slewing to star Vega as well. I parked and slewed several times to the Moon but it did the same mistake all the time.
Then I disconnected my PC and connected the hand controller where it slewed to the Moon correctly. I need to run my G11 through the ASCOM driver and need to fix this issue. I would highly appreciate if anyone has any info on such kind of issues.
Thanks, Nikul

Nikul,
You are in Arizona and it is unusual in that the local time there is the same as California.? The normal longitudes where local time is set up is off in that area.? I don't think (who does) G-2 knows the time zones if the earth exactly except by using a longitude value and interpolating.? For most places on Earth that idea works, but not for Arizona. Using local time wrecks the simple method.
So please try this:
Set your time offset to zero, as though you live at Greenwich UK.? Set your "local time" to the UTC time (of course just look it up online realtime).??
Do enter your correct latitude and longitude.
After those entries, park and power off the Gemini and reboot it.? Then it will use the new values to calculate object position.??
In your Gemini.net applet, look for chrckboxes for "automatically set UTC time on connect". That might work well but I have not tested it.? Watch out for the setting for "upload defaults on connect" that might be in the Advanced panel or the Telescope panel.? Leave that off until you are sure you have a good Default set of settings working and you download those from the Gemini to the PC and you store that.??
Have fun,

Hi Nikul, Here's a way for you to test your mount and to help test a new version of the ASCOM driver. The latest version has a troubleshooting report function that allows you to package up and share a file with all your configuration settings from Gemini and some from your PC. I'm hopeful this can help diagnose problems, just like the one you're having. The new driver installation is in the Gemini.NET ASCOM driver group files section (you'll need to join the group if not already a member): /g/Gemini_ASCOM_DriverThe new driver version is located here: /g/Gemini_ASCOM_Driver/files/TestAnd the reporting functionality described in this message: /g/Gemini_ASCOM_Driver/message/4558If you can install the new driver and run the report and upload/email the resulting file, I believe this will make it easier to figure out what's going on in just a few clicks. Regards, ? ? ?-Paul

Hi Nikul ? I think the issue you are having may be that you can¡¯t set your location coordinates in the Gemini Telescope.net app, you can only select from the predefined list. ?You have to set your site coordinates in the Gemini hand controller (or the gemini web pages), ? Here¡¯s from the gemini telescope.net user guide (available in the software under Help! Menu) ? ? ?

Here's a good place and time to recommend the Garmin gps that losmandy sells. I use it all the time (pun intended!) and have never had a problem with geographic location and time. Well worth the cost, in my opinion

Thank you very much to Michael, Paul, Brian and Chuck... To my surprise I was not able to reproduce the issue last night... I don't know why the issue did no surface last night... I was not able to connect with Ethernet which I still need to figure out probably bad cable to consider culprit for. I first tried with my different stick PC and Stellarium on it with the USB connection and it did slew properly... Then I switched to Cartes Du Ciel and it worked properly as well. Then I switched to USB connection with my laptop where I found the issue with Cartes Du Ciel and to my surprise the issue did not surface. I don't remember if I changed anything or by mistake I changed anything that made it slew properly then I don't know... As long as I have it slewing probably I don't mind. Although I will keep in mind if it reproduces the problem again... I'll try the connection with Ethernet which a new cable and then check the config on the portal...
But thank you very much for your valuable input...
Thanks, Nikul

Hi Nikul!
I often think the best problem is one that goes away by itself.
But then later it comes back...? So now you know what to look for if it happens to you again.
Have fun!? ?
It is finally raining here in the drought stricken San Jose area of California.? My telescope use brought the rain of course!? ?
