When CWD isn't Center Weight Down? 10
The other night I upgraded my G11T to L6.02 and my AsiAir to the latest firmware. The night did not go well. My usual way to get the AsiAir and the G11T working well is to completely boot the Gemini-2 first, then turn on the AsiAir. I have not had much trouble, including meridian flips with Eastern and Western set at 90 degrees with 2:30 as the window to flip. However last night the mount ignored the limits. I had to power off to avoid a pier crash. When I pushed the go to CWD button on the Losmandy, even though the mount WAS CWD, it moved 70 degrees away. Can anyone tell me how the mount determines CWD? windows 11 preventing download of gemini 2 driver (The answer?) 3
What we need to know is what you're seeing when Windows (or rather a browser) refuses to download Gemini. In Microsoft Edge, when you download something unfamiliar, Edge will refuse, and you will have (at the lower left as I recall) an option, "More information..." Click on that and you can proceed to download. Or you can turn off the blocking as described here: https://www.cnet.com/tech/computing/how-to-tell-microsoft-edge-to-let-you-download-a-file-its-blocking/ Does either of these fit your situation? If not, tell me exactly what you're doing and what you see on the screen.

It's the little tweaks... 9
I thought my PA and balancing were pretty good and felt I had decent guiding, for the most part, averaging around .63" RMS. Except, my lightweight Apertura 75Q. I could never get good guiding with that scope, I just figured the G11, purchased new in July 2023, did better with heavier loads. So, I started going down the rabbit hole. I bought the wavy washer for the RA. I turn the latitude down as far as it will go so the RA moves freely and give a slight imbalance to the east. (This is usually the scope side, since my eastern view is only available after about 60 degrees, most of my imaging is to the west, where I can go down to about 35 degrees.) The scope has a small imbalance to the camera side. For years I was using the Pole Master and the accompanying software to do my PA. It seemed to be pretty good, but I didn't think I was getting under 2.0" with that software. I started looking around and I was hearing people having good success with that camera and SharpCap, so I decided to give it a try. I ran the PA with the Pole Master software then immediately with SharpCap. SharpCap shows my PA error at 4.3", no way! This has to be wrong I think, so I run through the Pole Master routine again, really tried dialing it in, what does SharpCap say? 3.9". I go through the SharpCap alignment and get the PA down to 0.5". check Pole Master and it says I'm off 3.5. That's a big difference but I decided to trust SharpCap. As a result, for the past couple months now, my guiding has been incredible. I'm consistently staying in the range of 0.46" RMS and on some nights in the 0.27" range. My conclusion is, and I always thought good enough was ok, Proper balance and good PA can't be emphasized enough. As a note, I'm running L6 and have not upgraded to take advantage of training PEC, I'm using Predictive PEC and don't see why I need to train PEC with the results I'm getting.

New to me G11G 2
I just picked up a 3 year old, but unused G11G on CloudyNights. Everything is going well, couple tweaks here and there but so far, I am happy with the purchase. I do want to update the firmware to L6. I got a PICKit 3 and the necessary wires. Looking over the instructions on the gemini-2 site, there should be 2 sets of 5 pin connectors on the board labeled J18 and J19 that I am supposed to use to update the servos. I don't have those. Looks like I have a Gemini-2 Mini. There are two 5 pin sockets labeled J12 and J4 that are located by the DEC connector. I can't find any instructions on how to update this version of the Gemini 2. Any help or links to directions is appreciated!

My G811 not slewing properly. 3
I have had my G811 with Gemini 2 for several years but have used it little. I'm having problems getting it to properly align. I think it's caused by my entering bad info into Gemini 2 prior to selecting a bright star for alignment. My question is: What is the appropriate "Time" to enter into the system? Is it the current time or UTC time and I am confused as to the offset from UTC. I live in NE Ohio and some sites say my offset is -4 and other sites say -5. Any help would be appreciated. I have sent the mount back to Scott Mohave latest software update, the installation of the spring loaded worms and a. general servicing.

Connecting a USB Camera for PEC Training 9
Hi everyone, and thanks for your help! I'm new to PEC, and fairly new to the Gemini-II. The instructions I have seen so far that talk about setting up PEC require connecting your main camera, in my case a ZWO ASI183MC Color Camera, to the mount controller, in my case the Gemini-II. Here's the problem. The Gemini-II has an ST4 Auto Guider port for the guide camera and my main camera has a USB 3.0 printer (square) port. I have not seen any ST4-to-USB adapter cables, and it seems like a mismatch that I can't find a way around. Does anyone know of a solution? How do I connect a USB camera to an ST4 port? Or do I need to connect the camera to the USB (square/printer) port instead of the ST4 Auto Guider port? An alternative might be that instead I use my guide camera, which is an ASI290MM Mini that has an ST4 port, but it is mounted to the OTA body and it has much lower resolution, so I fear the training might not be as good for multiple reasons. Does anyone have solutions, or at least ideas? Am I going about this the wrong way? What am I missing? How do I get started with PEC on the Gemini-II? Do I need to train for PEC using my ASI290 guide scope and an off-axis guide assembly? I have searched for instructions for PEC specific to the Gemini-II and have not found them. Do they exist? BTW, the mount is a G11T with a Gemini-II and a Celestron C11 OTA, if that helps. Thanks, Doug

GM8 not slewing correctly. 8
Hi All, My GM8 with Gemini II L6.02 is not slewing correctly. I've checked site/time, mount type, etc. but it does not seem to know where to slew. I picked Altair and the RA only moved a small amount and the DEC not at all. The handset said slew complete even though the RA and DEC displayed were not the targets. This is the first time I've been able to use the mount since upgrading to L6.02. Does anyone have any ideas? Regards, Charlie

Catalog Order on Hand Controller 8
This morning, when I was out on a rare clear, smoke free sky here in Minnesota, I was just doing some visual observing. I was hopping around from NGC to Messier to Caldwell objects with a C11 and an old Meade 14mm UWA "smoothie". I add that detail because Gemini put the objects darn near center everytime including meridian flips. I'm still impressed with the pointing accuracy in L6 (thanks again to all that made that possible). Back to my topic. Is there a way to reorder the catalog listing on the hand controller? I ask because I thought it would be nice to put my most used catalogs at the top of the list. I know I can add catalogs to Gemini (I added a Palomar Cluster catalog) and those added ones go to the bottom of the list. Not a big deal if that is not possible but I thought I would ask. Chris N

Gemini/Nina connection issue 23
I have now gotten the error message when trying to slew in NINA 'ASCOM Driver Error SlewEquitorialAsync' on several occasions. NINA discord feedback is that this is a connection issue. I have solved it sometimes by rebooting everything, changing where the usb b cable from Gemini plugs into my laptop and/or by changing cables. Last night none of these worked (I didn't have a backup cable). Any suggestions?

Upgrade form Gemini 1 L4 to Gemini 2 L5.5 20
I just recently upgraded and am trying to get used to the new look and mode of operation. Specifically two things I have a question about: 1. I used to leave the Gemini 1 on permenantly at a particular park position (ROR roof, so scope needs to be horizontal). The Gemini 2 has a nice display that seems to be on all the time. The power draw of the Gemini 2 compared to the Gemini 1 seems to be higher, even when parked and doing nothing. Have I missed something in the manual about how to leave it when not in use or should I turn it all off and do a warm restart at the start of each session instead? 2. I copied everything over from the Gemini 1 (limits etc) - all seems to work fine. I anticipate doing a polar align with PemPro at some point, had never succeeded with PEC training on the Gemini 1 system, will try again on the Gemini 2. Anything other gotcha's I need to be aware of? Thanks in advance as always... Regards Mark

Mount slow to respond 5
Hello group, I'm hoping that someone can decipher these guide logs better than I. The basic problem is that the mount is slow to respond to guide commands from PHD2, at times. The DEC axis is the most affected by this, though the RA axis also shows signs. I have tried a few things: Tightened the screws holding the motor assembly to the mount, both axes. (no discernible affect, though the spur gears are hard to move on both axes. Not as Scott describes in his videos, IMO.) Changed PHD2 exposure settings from 0.2 seconds through 3 seconds. (0.2 second most effective especially on the RA axis. The main advantage is the excursions are compressed in time) Changed RA algorithm from Predictive PEC to Resist Switch. (no discernible affect) Reworked the cabling several times. (no discernible affect) Used ST4 port to try and eliminate the software contributions. (Much worse on both axis) Disconnected all applications connected to the mount but PHD2. (no discernible affect) Set different tensions on the clutches. (no discernible affect) Equipment/software list Losmandy G-11 just reworked to include the tucked motor & spring loaded worm, the problem appears after this modification. ZWO ASI120mm guide camera. Gemini 2, level 6. plus the Gemini.net driver, ethernet connection to mount. PHD2 2.6.13 Cartes Du Ceil N.I.N.A. Windows 10 x64 Guide logs, debug logs are too big to send. Please note the times below. Ignore the other time stamps labeled guiding in each log. 07/19/24 22:52:59 Target gamma cygni region, about 70 degrees above the horizion. During this log I increased the mount settle after dither time from 10 seconds to 30 seconds. 23:36:36 Target gamma cygni region, about 70 degrees above the horizion. I began fiddling with the PHD2 settings towards the end of this part of the log. 01:05:48 Guiding assistant run showing very good polar alignment. 07/18/24 23:52:56 Target gamma cygni region, about 70 degrees above the horizion. ignore 0:16:45 thru 0:18:51 that was me touching the wires. 0:44:19 Target gamma cygni region, about 70 degrees above the horizion. Has this been seen before? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks Tim.

PHD2 settings when switching from L5.21 to L6.02 ?? 4
Hi, Is there anything that must changed in PHD2 after upgrading to L6.02 ? I assume that the 4x resolution mode is transparent to PHD2 and that PPEC settings will be also the same. I won't be using PEC in the first test. Thanks in advance for any advice. Best regards, Daniel

windows 11 preventing download of gemini 2 driver 6
Hi I'm kind of a rookie with windows as I normally use a Mac . I am setting up a new pc to use with my gm811 with gemini 2 version 6. Keep getting an error when trying to download something about make sure you trust the site before downloading. On a Mac you could go into security settings and allow it to go through. Anyway I have searched for a solution but nothing yet. I am sure you folks would have a work around Mike

David Partridge is available to undertake repairs in the UK from September this year
As some of you will know I moved house earlier this year and haven¡¯t been able to take on any Gemini-1 or Gemini-2 repairs. I now expect that I will be in the position to accept work again in September this year or possibly a little earlier Please note well that if you are sending your Gemini from outside the UK, please make sure that the customs declaration clearly states that it is being sent for repair. If customs charge me when it arrives in UK, I fear that I will have to pass that charge on to you. I advise using a competent courier such e.g. DHL who do their own customs clearance. Setting up the Losmandy Gemini 2 9
Hello, I have purchased the Losmandy Gemini 2 G11 mount. This is my first motorized head mount, and so I do not have prior experience with such a device. I am using the HC to set up the modeling and to start I want to select Vega as the East sky. I then proceed by selecting "Go To", however, the mount sets on a completely different position than what I have selected. I have already tried to reset the mount but this did not help. Would anyone have advice on how to proceed from this step that I am having an issue with? Thanks!

What Do the Park Modes Mean? 4
On the hand controller park screen there are multiple options, some of which are not completely clear to me. 1) I'm assuming here that "park" means move the telescope to a specific position and stop moving in RA and DEC, but please correct me if it means something different. 2) How do you bring the mount out of park (without rebooting Gemini)? 3) What does "Park at CWD Position" mean? Is CWD an abbreviation for "Current Working Declination"? Something else? 4) I assume that "Park at Home Position" means move it to whatever location you set in the "Set Home Position". Is that an ALT/AZ position relative to the mount (I assume)? Or is it a RA/DEC sidereal location? 5) On other mounts, the "Home" position usually means DEC is set to 90 degrees (due north) and RA is set such that the counterweights are in their lowest position. What is the equivalent setting here? Or does this mount not have an equivalent? 6) How is "Sleep Telescope" different from parking the telescope? 7) How do you bring the mount out of sleep (again, without rebooting Gemini)? Thanks for your help, Doug

Windows 11 Laptop to Gemini II G11T for PHD2: connectivity 5
I'm deforking my old 12" SCT tube and mounting on a G11T I have on order. I'm planning on autoguiding with a new Dell XPS 15 using PHD2 and a ZWO camera on a guidescope. (I've gone through the pleasure and pain of doing this and getting it to work on the old LX-200 mount -- but after a decade I give up on trying to get good AP images with that mount.) I'm seeing conflicting info on the basic connection to the mount from the laptop for autoguiding. It *seems* like I should just be able to connect the USB from the Gemini unit on the mount with this (https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Basics-External-Gold-Plated-Connectors/dp/B00BCWALHM?th=1 ) sort of cable to USB on the laptop using the Gemini ASCOM drivers. (The XPS comes with a "7-in-1 USB C hub.") Online videos and Losmandy tutorials seem to imply (to me) that Ethernet is the way to communicate from a computer to the mount, with other protocols being limited, including access to the web interface. I'm ok with working through the ASCOM / COM port etc. setups for USB (seem like the Windows 11 OS should just work if the ASCOM is installed and I connect USB to the mount, but . . .) , but looking to inquire if I need to actually do the Ethernet route or not and make that the basic connection configuration. Regards Steve
