Serial to USB connection

I used The Sky 6 to do go-tos by connecting the Gemini I to my computer via a serial to USB connection.? How do I accomplish this with the Gemini 2? I still have the USB cable,? but need to know what cable to use from the serial connector to the Gemini 2 unit.?

If you wish to continue using serial, you need a cable from the serial port on the computer to a 6P6C modular connector.

?

For the G1 you used a 4P4C connector wired thus:

?

???? Computer?? 4P4C

?

GND??????? -> Pin 2,

Tx ? ???? -> pin 3,? (Rx on G1)

Rx ? ???? -> pin 4?? (Tx on G1)

?

For the G2 you need:

?

??? Computer??? 6P6C

?

???? GND? ???? -> Pin 3

???? Tx ? ???? -> Pin 2?? (Rx on G2)

???? Rx?? ???? -> Pin 5?? (Tx on G2)

?

PS It¡¯s possible Losmandy sell a suitable cable (probably DB9 to 6P6C), but you¡¯d need to contact Tanya by ¡®phone or email.

An alternative is to use a straight USB cable from PC to Gemini connected to the USB B (device) input on Gemini. With modern versions of Windows (10 or 11), this will automatically install a driver and create a serial port you can use on the PC. With older versions, you may need to install the driver manually, which might be a hassle, but also doable.

Paul,?
Do I understand correctly that a cable from a USB port on my computer connecting to the USB B input on the G2 will accomplish my goal automatically? I am using an HP computer with a Core10 gen 7 chip and running Windows 10.

Yep. That should work.

I use a long USB3 cable to go from my computer out to my? telescope. ? ?The USB cable has a 5V powered signal repeater at the telescope end to provide signal conditioning.? I have a usb hub at the mount to carry imaging camera, guiding camera, and Gemini mount info back to my computer, where I use NINA.? ? No need for ethernet to the Gemini.

Paul Kanevesky and David Hill,?
Thanks for the feedback on the USB connection situation.? I used a USB 3 cable to connect my laptop to the Gemini.? Fired it up and it worked perfectly.? I can now use The Sky to drive my mount around the sky! Thanks for your help.?
