Gemini Firmware L6.02 released!
Folks,
Gemini L6.02 firmware and Hand Controller v1.61 firmware are now out of beta test, and available to everyone. This version enables full use of PEC with L6 and with PEMPro. In addition, it addresses some issues reported by the Southern hemisphere users, and adds a few new serial commands that make Gemini controller even more powerful. Steps to update 1. Update Gemini firmware using the latest GFU utility, v1.0.31?. Update HC version also if yours is older than v1.61, by checking the HC checkbox near the top of GFU window. 2. If you use PEMPro, install v3.10.07 or later that's compatible with Gemini L6.02 from here:?? ? ? Follow instructions by Brian Valente for using PEMPro with L6:?/g/Gemini-II/files/Gemini%20L6.02%20beta%20files/Losmandy_PEC_Primer_for_L6.pdf 3. If you use ASCOM, you may want to update your version to the latest driver (v1.1.25):?? 4. Latest serial command documentation is available:? NOTE 1: If you can't use GFU, you can still update the firmware to L6.02 by using the combined firmware file from here:?? and update Gemini using Gemini web pages or by copying the appropriate files directly to the microSD card through FTP or by removing the SD card. NOTE 2: Remember to also update PIC controllers to v3 firmware to get the 4x encoder resolution if you are upgrading from L5. You should see this in the Gemini web pages after the update: Regards, ? ?-Paul |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAwesome news!Does anyone know if the the Losmandy specific version of pempro is available yet? Brian On Apr 11, 2024, at 3:47?AM, Paul Kanevsky <yh@...> wrote:

I don't have any specific information on this, but as far as I know, it's not available yet, and could be some time before it becomes available. If you're interested in using PEC with PEMPro now, I'd get the current trial version of that software and try it out instead of waiting for the Gemini-specific version sometime in the future. But that's just my opinion :) Regards, ? ?-Paul |
Paul,
Thanks much for your contributions on getting the L6 finalized! Super! My Hand Controller Info screen now shows as attached.

Can we get a list of the added commands? Our club doesn¡¯t do any astrophotographers, so wondering what the benefits to applying this would be.I believe for visual observations, there's not much new in the L6.02 firmware over 6.0, unless you're in the Southern hemisphere. If you don't have the HC updated to v1.61 firmware yet, you may want to do so. The main change from 1.60 was the addition of the date display on the main screen. Regards, ?-Paul |
What would be the downside of using the non-specific/currently available version of PemPro?? ? When waiting for my G11G last year it seemed the discussion around it was that it would not work with L6, but I didn't really have the right knowledge base to absorb why.? ?Did the firmware update fix whatever that concern was??

The whole point of the new L6.02 firmware was to make it work, so now it does, thanks to Rene, Ray, and our beta-testers! Beta testers were successful in reducing PE from 12 or more arcseconds peak-to-peak to 2 arcsecs by programming using PEMPro. That's certainly a worthwhile improvement, IMHO! |
I recently updated my system and got the time out error during the Flash while using GFU. I pressed Ok and restarted everything. On the Gemini firmware webpage, nothing is listed under HC firmware information . If I look at the HC itself, it shows Gemini firmware version as 6.02 and HC firmware as 1.61. Should the fact that the HC firmware info does not show up on the webserver page be of concern?

Is it possible that you were trying to view the web page while Gemini HC was still connecting to Gemini? The info on the web page is only shown after the HC boots up and finishes any remaining file upload/firmware flashing/initialization tasks. |
For those who are yet to update to L6.02, I just updated GFU to v1.0.32 to increase the time it waits for flashing to complete and Gemini to reboot. Hopefully this will eliminate the occasional timeout errors at the very end of the update process, when Gemini takes too long to finish rebooting:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýPaul, the Newgem.bin link in your announcement email seems to be corrupted. With the latest GFU, I just get the 1/29/2024 beta 6.02. Not the April release. My HC is 2.61

Sorry for asking. I started my system this morning and the HC Firmware version now appears on the webserver page as others have shown. Must've been the eclipse!

Glen, which link is corrupted??
GFU reads the available firmware versions directly from the website, so it shouldn't show beta versions, since none are available at this time. Just don't check the 'Show Beta versions', and you should see Level 6.02 as the default. That's what you should be using to update: If you need the combined602.zip file to update manually, that's available here:???(click on the link to download, don't copy, otherwise you'll get a small XML file that points to the real file.)
