Re: Gemini BOOTLOADER update available
That looks like the right location on the Keil website, Chris. You'll get a download link after you register. You can decline to receive marketing/update emails, if you don't want them.

Re: Gemini BOOTLOADER update available
My ULINK2 (off eBay) arrived today.? I did report earlier that the only difference I could see between the eBay one and the Amazon one was the lack of the "RealView Tools by ARM" logo.? I can report that the one off eBay does have that logo unlike the picture on eBay.? So I am ready to update the Bootloader.
?
Now for my probably dumb question.? When I click on the link in the instructions for the Keil software, this screen comes up (see attached picture).? Is this the screen that is supposed to come up?? I know enough about computers to be dangerous but also know enough to ask a question when there is doubt (in my mind) especially in this day and age when a page starts asking for personal info.
?
I just want to make sure before I proceed.

Well if it takes that long I'll cancel the Amazon order and just roll down to Losmandy's shop and reprogram my G2 minis on their bench.? Maybe I should just cancel now, I need to go pickup a Loamandy dovetail for the M10" LX200 we're going to defork tomorrow.??

My main concern is the right side.? On the left side the circuit board and standoffs are offset enough and should not be an issue with normal Losmandy supplied wing nut type fasteners.? But II think the problem will be minor in the field as normally the bracket on the newer mounting "ears" that are on MAs and tripods is quite thick, plenty thick enough to avoid internal mechanical interference or damage.?
?
But if the user has an older or unusual mounting bracket or is using non-Losmandy supplied fasteners they should use caution when mounting a new Gemini 2 case the first time to be sure the fasteners do not touch the right side circuit board or internal case standoff.?

Good update, Chip!?
?
The PCB looks identical, but the wing screws look like they could cause PCB damage if screwed in too far. Thanks for the warning!

The clearance is fine with the new one-piece machined ears on a new MA or newer tripods.? The issue might be more likely to be a problem on older tripods and adapters with the thin welded on sheet metal ears or when storing the attachment knobs on the Gemini 2 case, just don't run them in all the way.?

Oh nice new car for G2. ??
This problem with wing screws holding the unit case is a problem on G1s ¡.but yes. Can see the issue here with this case. ?
On G1s, I used washers to space the wing screws further out.?
FWIW, thanks for the warning Chip

Ok,. here's the new Gemini 2 case face and insides showing the circuit board.? The Gemini 2 mini had L6.12 and HC.6.3 with the new bootloader.? It has a? noticeably shorter boot up time and HC initialization time.??
?
One warning I have is that the new board can be damaged if the user runs the attachment knobs all the way into the case.? The fasteners can damage the circuit board if the screws are run all the way into the case.? This was not possible in the old solid milled cases.??

We'll see, I ordered from Amazon with a 7 day delivery date.? But Amazon vendors frequently promise one thing then deliver weeks late or sometimes never deliver on items like this.? I have had this happen more than once and Amazon is always willing to refund on stuff like this.? I think the Amazon system knows this is going on but the people do not want to police it too closely.??

Paul,
?
I just picked up a new Gemini 2 with the old 1999 G11s that Scott has done the full Monte on.? This new G2 came in a different case it's no longer the milled from solid aluminum, it is now a thin stamped and shaped aluminum housing now.? Not sure I like it but it is pretty stiff and protective while saving a significant amount of weight.?
?
I'll pop the cover off and document what's inside and see if anything is new or marked differently.? I'll also have access to this G2 as it is going to my best friend who lives 5 minutes from me.?
?
Full Monte upgraded G11G mount.??

Re: Upgrading Gemini L6 to L6.02 or L6.12
Hi Mike,
?
Like Chip, I think it's worth replacing the battery, just to be sure. Different versions of Gemini over the years had different 3v battery holders and had different current draw that resulted in wildly different estimates of what voltage is fine and what isn't. With newer G2, I'd agree with Brian's assessment -- 2.8v or even 2.5v should be sufficient (test this while the battery is in circuit, not when the battery is removed). Some of the older Gemini versions could become flakey with voltages below 3v. |
Re: ULINK 2 Availability
Hi Chris, I suspect the new tariff policy is causing significant delays, especially for delivery from China. The unit you ordered from eBay should work just fine.

ULINK 2 Availability
When this new Bootloader was announced, I immediately followed the link to Amazon and placed my order.? That was April 8.? As of this morning, it still has not shipped.? I am wondering if this item is somehow caught up in the "tariff wars".? I know this is not a critical Gemini update but I am one of the "M:" drive people and would like to not be one of those people.? I sure would like to be able to use the GFU for updates.
?
I did go to eBay and found this one.? Looks to be identical with the exception of the "RealView Tools by ARM" logo.? I compared the specs of both and they are identical so I did order one.? At least this one has already shipped and should be here by the weekend.
?
Has anyone else had this issue with availability?? Hopefully the unit that is en route from eBay will work.? That one was only $22 (their price went up after I placed my order).
?
?
?
Just curious.

Hi Mike,
?
Well you are at that point where if replacing a battery fixes it who cares if we're grasping at straws?? The battery backup circuitry is flakey and some people have no issues with a battery showing well under 3.0v no load.? Others, myself included have seen unreliable operation and weird Gemini 2 behavior under 2.9v.? Who knows?? If you have weird stuff happening and you replace the battery with a new one and it goes away stop asking questions and go use it before it changes it's mind.?
?
Cheers/Chip

Re: Upgrading Gemini L6 to L6.02 or L6.12
Paul,
?
That's what I was thinking.? However, I can assure you that the Reverse Dec checkbox was not checked.? In fact, I was thinking about setting the to Rev Dec so it worked as before.
?
Here is was is puzzling to me.? I'm sure that there are many people that are using Level 6.02 - 6.12 without any issue.? So I'm wondering if maybe there is something we are missing.? One thing that I've seen mention as different times is the Lithium Battery Voltage.? I saw a thread that Brian Valente(/g/Gemini-II/topic/battery_replacement_gemini/86901178)? says that the battery should work fine down to 2.0 V but others in the same thread indicated that anything below 3.00V the battery should be replaced because the Gemini will become less reliable.
?
My battery is currently 2.878V.? Since what I'm seeing with my mount on Level 6.02 and greater seems to be unexplained behavior of the mount.? Do you think this battery should be replaced or may be causing some of the issues that I'm encountering.? Or is this just me grasping for straws.
?
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Gemini-2 confusing east and west
?
Hi Joe,
?
I meant to ask you this previously but when you pulled out the battery did you by chance verify the old and new battery voltage with a DMM - digital multi meter?? This would be a couple of additional data points for those of us who track this interesting stuff LOL!
