1. I was told the problem is that some SD cards are 2GB when they should be 8GB. I don't know more details how exactly is causes problems... Are there known issues around that? I am in Las Vegas, NV.

Paul, I saw very similar symptoms with my mount 3 times over last month. 20 nights, give or take. I do imaging with KStars/Ekos. The mount is connected to PC via Ethernet, HC is not connected at all.
