There¡¯s a pattern in the behaviour, just before the timeout in each case we see the identical message sequence:

That isn¡¯t a flakey connection to me.

Looks like it's working... but not every time. Something's wrong with the connection, serial converter, or the serial port.

Re: Beta-test of new HC firmware v1.62

I see a HC startup failure at times in the field with no LAN.? The starting sequence displays on the HC starts, waits, switches to connecting to Gemini pauses and then fails to connect.? The screen flashes grey (reboot) and the HC restarts, on the second attempt it connects.
?
When connected to the LAN in the office it does not behave this way when able to connect to the Ethernet LAN.

I have ¡°allow speeding up¡± set, so I expected the HC buttons to work like the G1, going from Guide speed to Centre speed to Slew Speed if I hold (e.g.) the right RA button down and press the left button twice.

?

But it doesn¡¯t seem to work like that?? If I have speed set to Guide it will only move up to Centring speed when I press the opposite button. HC is set to ¡°All Speeds¡± mode

?

Also, the buttons on the rear of the HC don¡¯t seem to do anything sometimes, other times they do?

?

Can anyone cast some light for me?

?

G2 NINA and Meridian Flip

I have L5 hardware and was wondering for southern Hemisphere are there any special requirements in the set up of the mount or while using NINA for it to perform a meridian flip, thanks

Re: periodic error training (PemPro config question)

Hi Steve,
?
Brian isn't visiting here very often anymore, so let me attempt to give you an answer.

> One, after uploading to the mount and verifying the curves and riding off into the sunset, do we go back into Gemini PEC configuration and set the worm period back to 1x?
?
No, don't change the worm setting. You don't need to do 2x worm cycle recording/programming. You can do 1x worm cycle, as well. 2x takes longer and will only help in the specific case that you have a certain error that can't be fixed by 1x worm cycle PEC. But either way should work.
?
>? Two, on the PemPro site ? (updated 2023) there's no mention of this. Is there a conflict here, is your doc still relevant with this idea, etc.?
?
PemPro has been updated since 2023. Early 2024, a version with some changes and bug fixes was released specifically to address the Gemini PEC programming with L6.02 and above. Just download the latest version of PEMPro available.

> And unrelated to those: On the site's document it asks to "go into the "Advanced Setup" page and uncheck "Gemini expects J2000 co-ordinates" because they both need to be on the JNow page--is that also required from your perspective?
?
It's not required, but it is recommended. You don't need J2000 conversion unless you have certain software that only supports that epoch. To program PEC you don't need J2000 precession conversion.

Brian,
(Just took delivery of a GM11T; works great and now refining) On page 2 and 3 of your guide /g/Gemini-II/files/Documentation_and_Manuals/Losmandy%20PEC%20Primer.pdf you state to "set to 2x PEC cycle" and in the viewer and waveform analysis and correction we need to remember the periods are 2x . . . got that, but . . .

Two questions:
?
  • One, after uploading to the mount and verifying the curves and riding off into the sunset, do we go back into Gemini PEC configuration and set the worm period back to 1x?
  • Two, on the PemPro site ? (updated 2023) there's no mention of this. Is there a conflict here, is your doc still relevant with this idea, etc.?

Thanks for you time; love your valuable advice and presentations.

Re: Beta-test of new HC firmware v1.62

Edited

Hi Ken,
?
Totally up to you. The beta seems pretty stable, and has bug fixes and enhancements, so should be worth an upgrade. v1.63c of the HC and L6.05 are now available for beta testing.

That seems plausible even if it fails the aesthetic tests.

Don't really know much about it, but would something like this work?? 5v@3A from 12V DC, waterproof, and has a USB-C connector:

I have a tech support question in GL.iNet regarding the Slate-AX USB C port's 12v tolerance.? Many of these ports are independently regulated at the input and can tolerate some higher voltages at the input.? ?
