Re: Automatic Meridian Flip
Tom - Thanks for that information. So what is stopping auto meridian flips being introduced for existing Gemini users, eg through the gemini.net driver?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSteveIt is already in the Gemini 2.? In the catalog selection, when you select an object, you have the option to select Meridian Flip. Tom On 3/9/2011 9:37 AM, Steve wrote: ? |
Automatic Meridian Flip
Hi - Is there a list of future enhancements to Gemini? If so, can I make a request to add a facility for Automatic Meridian Flips to be performed. It is so frustrating sometimes when my mount just bleeps at me when getting to the safety limits. I don't tknow whether this is a technical issue but certainly in terms of data, the mount 'knows' where it is and 'knows' where it needs to be after the flip. So should be capable of moving from oone to the tother. The flip may not be absolutely accurate depending particularly on the quality of the pointing model but something would be better than nothing. Since it can be performed manually, it seems logical (to me at least!) that this process can therefore be automated
(I don't know which is the most appropriate forum for this suggestion, so I've also posted it elsewhere) Thanks Steve |
Gemini II on G11... not alignment?
Hallo again.. After solved the problems with the Main Board firmware, HC and Main board comunications are apparently ok.. but now, my partner in the observatory has the next problems: 1. When he try to set the Home Position, it seems that it is not stored, because he doesn?t receive any message and when he does "park Home pos" the mount does not go to the position that he tried to set... 2. Aligning: Slew to a Bright star.. center and Align .. any confirmation is displayed and any alignment point is added ... ? Advices? Thanks and regards.. ? Miguel Angel P¨¦rez Hern¨¢ndez

Slow approach
Rex Groves
While synching on a calibration star last weekend, I noted that the mount would slew rapidly toward the star to within a few degrees and then approach the final position veeerry slooowly. It took up to a minute to complete the slew. Is something in my settings causing this?
Thanks..Rex |

Re: Updates re: Delivery Times
Thanks for the replies. I was just told that I should be receiving mine within the next 2 weeks. Losmandy is even going to install the OPW for me before they ship it!

New to the Group

Hi Folks,
Well, I just took the jump and ordered a G11 G with Gemini II. As a Celestron user in the past, I am sure I will have to get used to how the Gemini works. I am looking forward to "picking the brains" of the experienced users here to get me up to speed. My mount should arrive in about 3 weeks, so I am downloading drivers manuals and whatever reference material I can get my hands on for the time being. Kirk |

I'm with you on that - I wonder if Losmandy continues to ship or if they are making another round of improvements based on some of the initial user experiences that we've all been reading about. Me, I'd just like to have some updated visibility to status. However, living in Ohio, I guess I'm not missing much right now... Thanks for everyone's input, just trying to triangulate a little. I suspect you will get the polarscope and OPW quickly unless you requested them to be installed on the mount. I ordered my G11 last May, but I don't think my experience is an accurate measure of the wait. Once Feb rolled around, it took a couple weeks after the official roll out before I got mine (I ordered mine through OPT), so those dates are probably pretty close.

I ordered a G11 with Gemini in November, prior to knowing about Gemini II. ?The order is through All Star Telescopes in Didsbury, Alberta, and the owner talked to Losmandy early last week; the current shipping date on two G11's that he ordered (mine and one on spec) is the end of March. ?I wish it would be a couple of weeks earlier as there is a group from this area going to Rodeo New Mexico for a week of observing and imaging at the end of the month. ?I guess I will still be using my EQ6. Re: Updates re: Delivery Times
I ordered mine February 9 through a dealer. They said to expect a April/May delivery for new orders at that time. I guess more orders must be coming in and the backlog growing now that Gemini-II is real. I hope the longer wait means a better product and they don't skimp on quality to get the mounts out more quickly. But, yes I would like to hear it is on its way!

Updates re: Delivery Times
While some of us are waiting for our Gemini II's wondering if anyone can help us with expected delivery dates based on their experience. I've been on order since early January (3rd or 4th) and just getting curious; was initially told end of March at the latest. Also, I ordered the one-piece worm and polarscope from Losmandy about one month ago and have yet to hear anything back from them, despite leaving a couple follow-up messages. I know they're probably busy, but sheesh!! Keep the updates coming, its great to read the experiences of others to help us new owners when our delivery day arrives (and this will be my first Losmandy mount)!!

Re: Buttons
PS
The other reason I went into detail, is that keeping up with one set of keypads in real time is hard enough, but the possibility of having to keep up with 3 sets key pads in parallel is no small trick. I bet Ren??? is very glad that humans don't have 3 hands.:-D Push buttons are not trivial coding because of the switch bounce that every one of them have. I would think that Graphics touch screens process similar problems also. I also know that there is no hardware key de-bounce circuity in the graphics hand controller to assist. It all has to be done by the software. I know that Ren??? has spent several months trying to fix just the interactions that having 3 possible set of keypads has presented. He spent the last week alone making changes to the touch screens, giving users the capability to not only reverse the directions of the RA and DEC buttons on the front and rear separately, but added the capability to format the SDCard, add catalogs, and delete catalogs, upload firmware all from the hand controller. He also streamlined the upload process to make it faster. Unfortunately, this much change usually comes with a few bugs, that also have found and squashed. That's where the beta testers come in. We really all hate to have to tell Ren??? that something is not right. Every time that happens, something gets pushed back. The Gemini 2 system is both more complex in the software aspect, but in many ways has less hardware to fail. The G1 had specially chips (5 of them) to drive the servos. The G2 only has three. Basically everything is handled by two ARM based processors, one it the main unit and one it the Hand controller. The servo movement and it's feed back in the G1 was handled by separate processors. This is not the case in the G2. The ARM in the main unit has to handle everything.: RS-232 ports, USB ports, Ethernet Port and Web interface, Servo driving and feedback, Autoguider, Classic Hand controller, Feature port , Encoder port and of course all the modeling, PEC and interface to the Graphics processor. I think our maker every night for Ren???. Tom Hilton |
