Re: PEC keeps turning off

Hi Paul,
?
I will follow your suggestion. I have cloudy nights for the next week, I can try in the future.
Looking at those timestamp of events, they may be I was doing the reset. I used the web UI to cold restart the mount. what I noticed was that the mount kept rebooting if I stayed on the web page for cold reboot. I think the web browser kept refresh the web page when it cannot load the page. When it load web page after boot, it sends reboot commands again by refreshing the web page. 3 days ago, I was trying to figure out why my mount points to the wrong direction and I found out I set reverse RA.

Thank you,

Re: Gemini-2 partially locked-up!?

Hi masami,
?
Like I asked Seokman, can you please go to the Gemini.NET virtual hand controller, connect to Gemini and collect a troubleshooter log zip file and upload it here? Seokman appears to have a number of WD Reset events in his logs, which often indicates a problem with memory and settings -- possibly a bad 3v battery.

Hi Seokman,

Thanks for uploading this! Looking into Gemini status log, it appears you've been experiencing very frequent restarts after a watchdog reset events (WD Reset). Here are some of the latest:

?
I would suggest you try the following sequence of tests:
?
1. Replace the internal 3v battery with a new one
2. Reset Gemini to all default settings
3. After populating all the right settings, try to see if the problem re-occurs
4. If yes, you may want to try to re-flash Gemini firmware, then repeat at step 2.
5. If that doesn't work, I'll need some help from Rene or one of our repairers to see if there's a problem with Gemini memory.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your guick feedback.
Yes, after I found my Gemini-2 was disconnected, I tried to connect to it from the virtual HC several times.? But no avail.
At that time, as I wrote before, its HC was alive, and I could confirm its network IP address (192.168.111.22) unchanged from the HC.? However I could not move the mount by pressing the button.? Then I powered off and on the unit, I could connect to Gemini through the remote PC, and move the mount as usual.? Because It was late, I didn't test it further.? I think its internal battery is OK.? Is it better to reset the unit by removing the battery and/or reflash it, though I don't want to lose its PEC data?

Hi masami,

Thanks for the log. A bit of a strange behavior from PHD2 -- it appears that at some point Gemini did not respond to a command to get simple RA/DEC position. After a few attempts to retransmit the request, the driver shut down the connection to Gemini. It then reported the connection closed to PHD2, yet it appears that PHD2 continued to try to guide for quite a while:

Did Gemini work after you rebooted it? Does the physical hand controller on Gemini work? Did you check that its IP address or other network settings didn't change for some reason? If you have different Ethernet cables, switch, or a different PC, can you try connecting them to Gemini using ASCOM driver and see if it can connect? Seokman,
You are not alone. I¡¯ve had the same thing happening to me for a few months now. It happens every session. At this point I check to see if PEC is still enabled after the sequence has been running a while and it consistently has been deselected at some point. I¡¯ve considered it a nuisance since my PEC on/vs PEC off performance is only about a 0.2 arcsec difference, I check fairly early in the sequence, and it seems to stay on after I manually enable it at that time again.?

It¡¯s been cloudy so my mount is inside but I¡¯ll grab my logs, ASCOM driver version, NINA version, and Gemini2 firmware version this weekend so we can compare notes.?

ASCOM 7 is the common ASCOM platform across all mounts and devices, it doesn't know anything about Gemini or how to talk to it, or, how to turn on or off PEC. That's the job of the Gemini.NET ASCOM driver. Did you update that as well? What version of the driver do you have installed? The driver generates logs for the session, as well as, NINA. You can check both logs for errors or possibly disconnects.

Naturally there are several ways to look at the usage of these words, but IMHO - when used in this context "Built" refers to a previous action, whereas "Build" refers to the current condition. I consider the version and revision current conditions.

Therefore, I vote for "Build".

Hello all,

After performing a recent firmware update on a Gemini II mini-controller on a GM811 (received new from Losmandy in early 2022), I noticed that the Hand Controller is displaying February 29th in the lower right corner, regardless of the actual date. With my time zone offset (-7) this only occurs between the civil hours of 17:00:00 to 23:59:59 for any date in February and the year is 2025 or three year increments thereof (i.e. 2028, 2031, etc.). If the HC's 'Menu / Time' screen -and/or- the web page 'Time' are displayed while the incorrect date is shown, the date setting boxes show the correct date! With other time zones, the abnormality start time changes accordingly but the end time remains the same. In addition, the initial GOTO pointing accuracy after a 'CWD / Cold Start' is within the expected error even with the Feb. 29th date being shown.

?

Hopefully this can be duplicated, and is not an isolated issue with my controllers. To confirm this - on the HC set the time zone offset to any valid negative value (AFAIK the problem does not appear with positive offsets), set the civil date to any day in February with a year as mentioned above, and set the civil time to (23:59:50 + time zone) and hit 'Set' at the bottom of the screen. After the display returns to the Home Screen, watch the date in the lower right corner jump from the set one to Feb.29th when the time rolls over to the next whole hour. If the year is set to anything other than mentioned, the date remains correct. It appears that the UTC 23:59:59 to 00:00:00 roll over triggers the Feb.29th date, and the civil 23:59:59 to 00:00:00 roll over corrects it.

I have used GFU V1.0.0.32 to reload both the mainboard and HC firmware several times. The current firmware shown on the HC 'Menu / HC / Info' is :

HC ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?- V1.63, Build Oct.14, 2024

By the way the micro SD cards are from Losmandy as part of their 'Level 6 Upgrade Kit' that I purchased last summer. The backup battery voltage is 3.01V, with the main battery reporting 14.98V.

?

Other than what appears to be a 'cosmetic abnormality / annoyance', this mount and controllers perform flawlessly!?

I know it's late in February 2025, but I didn't want to get caught off guard in February 2028....
