Re: Beta-test of new HC firmware v1.62

Doug,

I'm reading the state of the Flip Points before changing to the flip points screen. This should help.
Please give the Beta2 version a test:

/g/Gemini-II/files/Gemini%20HC%201.62%20beta/gemhc162beta2.zip

Thank you,

There seems to be a synchronization issue between the HC stat flags and the Gemini-2.? Several examples but the easiest displays in this way:? On first entering the Flip Panel (status <229 of 0x0) the panel buttons show "Activate ..." for East and West.? Press each button and these display "Deactivate ...".? Exit the panel and re-enter the Filp Panel, now the buttons display "Activate ...", the wrong status.? Obtain the physical status on Gemini-2 using the ASCOM Terminal (<229) this displays 0x03, both as active.? Restart Gemini-2 and upon entry into the Flip Panel the buttons read "Deactivate ...", the correct status.

Folks,

?

¸é±ð²Ô¨¦ provided a new (beta test) version of the Hand Controller firmware to use with L6.x:?
/g/Gemini-II/files/Gemini%20HC%201.62%20beta

This firmware adds some of the requested features:

- Show time to limit on the main screen, when time remaining is less than 1 hour

- Checkbox to invert the direction of gearboxes in Mount->Gearing (for McLennan gearboxes , for example)?

- New page added under Mount->Flip to enable/disable and to configure meridian flip points

?

gemhc.bin file is in the zip needs to be uploaded to Gemini HCFirmware folder on the SD card. You can do that through the Gemini web pages SD Card menu, or through GFU Advanced tab (drop the whole zip file in the HC section).

Remember to restart Gemini after updating this file. The HC will show uploading.... message for a little bit. When completed, the HC firmware version should show this:

In addition to the HC 1.62 beta firmware, ¸é±ð²Ô¨¦ suggests that you try the Gemini L6.03 beta firmware. This may be necessary to support the gearbox reversal feature, but also has some improvements in PEC precision and PEC drift removal.

Flip points are part of Level 6 firmware update and don't require servo firmware update to work.? L6 release also included PIC servo controllers firmware update to increase encoder resolution. You don't need to do anything to the mount, or to replace your existing motors, you just need to update PIC controllers to the new firmware, V3. You can update just the L6 firmware, without updating PIC controllers. It will work but most of the testing and fine-tuning for this release was done with both updates used together.
?
To get the most from L6, I'd recommend that you also update PIC firmware to V3. You could use it with just L6, leaving PIC firmware at V1, and it should work, but you will be using a combination that isn't well-tested.

Please forgive the observation but that looks like a basic user panel.? That option if selected it changes the behavior of the mount.? If it had been programed in ASCOM, as I'm sure it could have been, then yes it would be an automated function of ASCOM.? But programed in Gemini-2 means the HC deals with this too.? As the user should be aware wherever they stand, remote or local, I made the suggestion to echo the state to the HC.

Re: Can't figure out meridian flip with G11G and AsiAIR.

Paul, as usual thanks for clearing that up.
?
I figured it out by sitting next to the mount, changing the settings and doing goto's etc., and observed the behavior. I now have mine set, can't remember the settings, I'd have to power up the Gemini, but I can track 30 minutes past the meridian and if the object is within about 20 minutes, approaching, the meridian my G11 will slew pier side east on a goto.? I'm glad it worked out like that so objects that close to meridian don't require a flip 20 minutes later. I have no issues starting out from that point, the mount tracks just as good there as anywhere else.
?
Also, I use N.I.N.A., and it will flip 5 minutes past the meridian so, there's never a chance of reaching the west limit anyway, if I started out pier side west.
?
I'll boot it up later if I can and post my settings.

Since it's designed for automated use, serial commands are probably sufficient. ASCOM driver provides the way to set these since L6 release. Similar settings could be added to INDI driver and other software:
