Re: Blue Screen

Peter,

The HC has an "Adaptive Color" option that you find under MENU->HC->Display. If this is checked it overrides the color settings for Daytime/Dawn/Nighttime Mode by selecting the mode that is appropriate, based on your location, date and time. As long as these values are not set correctly it may look strange, but once all is set, it is nice. If you don't like it just uncheck the checkbox.

In L6 there is an additional precaution. If you wake up after a night of observing, having used Nighttime Mode and having dimmed the display it is brightened up that you can read the display although the Sun is in the sky now. If you can't read it anyway, you can use Gemini.net to adapt the screen brightness.

Re: FW: L6 - Hand Controller Connection on Power-Up

Hi Brian,
hi Bill

After Level6 Upgrade the HC fails any first connect! The second try results in a connect. I'm using ethernet connecton with my PC but the behaviour is the same if no PC is connected.

Level 6 Upgrade: How to activate 4x-mode

Hi

After finishing a smooth and issue free DIY Level 6 Upgrade I tried my G11 under the sky and everything (except the HC that needs a second try to connect each time after powerup of the gemini) runs nice so far. I also made my first experiences with SkyTrack and sattelite tracking...

But: As I found out the next day in one of the videos is that you've got to activate the 4x-mode manually under the 'gear'-tab of the HC. Is there anything else to know about starting the 4x-mode?

Shouldn't it be described in the Readme-file of the DIY-kit?

Re: L6 - HC Brightness Not Saved

Thanks again for posting this here BIll
?
I have been testing this for a while on my hc here (1.57) and I am not able to duplicate the issue.

There definitely has been work in this area to address prior undesirable behavior on brightness.

Right now if I set the brightness low using the HC, store that setting, then power cycle the gemini, it comes up at the lower brightness from startup through cold start, and it brightens once I hit back to get to the home screen. is that what you are saying as well?

Re: FW: L6 - Hand Controller Connection on Power-Up

Hi Bill - thanks for posting this.?

Some of this behavior may relate to the new underlying DHCP features and underlying code we are now using.?

In the new hand controller firmware, the flashing and 'rebooting' of the hand controller is a fix to prior situations in L5 where if it didn't connect, it would just hang. Now it will reboot itself and attempt to connect again.?

Your fix to unplug and re-plug in the HC is a good one for now

You can also try disabling DHCP if you are not using ethernet, and/or set the DHCP timeout value to 0 (both available under network in hand controller, make sure to store settings)

Similar issue reported here

/g/Gemini-II/topic/99792957#

I think Paul has a “bug” link page but cannot find it. ?Must be on front page lvl 6 somewhere?

if adaptive colour of the suggestions in the link don’t help find Paul’s “bug link”!

hahaha sounds rude!

Re: Level 6 Upgrade

Ahhh PicKit 2! ? ?It’s of an earlier era so might have issues with newer net framework. ?But that’s strange as usually they are backwards compatible.?

I suggest click on “yes “ to download the required version. ?Maybe go to microchip to read pickit2 requirements?

Ahh have net framework for PicKit 2 on their site try that?

I also ask can a PicKit 2 program a dsPIC33? Ahhh yes it can, just looked it up. ?Also maybe plug in PicKit and let it go it’s updated first etc

Get back at worst clicking “yes” on the net framework download shouldn’t hurt but you should be able to download it from microchip as well…as said above?

Re: FW: L6 - Hand Controller Connection on Power-Up

Hi Bill

Inspect the HC sockets (both ends) for foreign matter and bad pins. ?Use a torch and magnifier for a close inspection. ?funny thing I was working on HC recently and noticed that one of the pin had been pushed up and crossed to the next position ? So inspect the HC socket as well ?

As you already know the cable crimps are the usual problem but I have had one with a bit of paper caught in the pins.?

I also get poor connections on a spare HC cable I made. ?If I hold it in with pressure or bend the lead away from the socket it works fine otherwise I get reboots poor connection and sometimes need to replicate it.?

So your issue points to the socket maybe swap ends from HC to the Gemini hold the plug in on boot see how that goes ? ?The LAN has no connection to the serial apart from the ARM being common. ?

Alternately set the 2nd serial port (the one above the HC on mini) baud to 9600 and try the HC in that port to see if you get a change.?

Get back if it continues et

Re: Level 6 Upgrade

I set Offset to 0 and then set UT. I hope this works. Are the beeps for servos disconnected now gone? My unit was beeping before the upgrade, noy it is not and Tracking is set to Sidereal.

Re: Level 6 Upgrade

I just can't figure out what to do to set the time once and for all. Why is it so hard to find this information? I had found some kind of online manual a while ago. but don't know where.

FW: L6 - Hand Controller Connection on Power-Up

开云体育

After upgrading to level 6, my Hand Controller often does not connect to the G2 main controller on power-up.? ?However, this only seems to be a problem when the G2 does not have an Ethernet connection.? Below is what I have observed with my system.

?

With no Ethernet connection to the G2, the HC quite often fails to connect to the Gemini Controller during power-up.? When there is no Ethernet connection, I see the following behavior.

  • Splash screen and calibration screen complete successfully.
  • Blank screen with “Initializing HC…” text shows for about 12 seconds.
  • Then a blank screen with “Connecting to Gemini…” either flashes briefly and proceeds to the start screen (Cold Start, Warm Start, etc.) or the HC hangs at this point without going to the start screen.
  • The hang is somewhat intermittent.? Some days it hangs 100% of the time, some days maybe only 25% of the time.
  • Un-plugging and re-plugging the HC into the G2 main controller when it hangs will fix the problem.? It goes through splash screen, calibration screen, and then very quickly through the initializing and connecting screens.

?

With an Ethernet connection to the G2 controller, the HC power-up is reliable.? I see the following behavior.

  • Same as above but this time the “Initializing HC…” screen will be shown for only about 6 seconds.
  • It then quickly passes through the “Connecting to Gemini…” screen and then shows the start-up screen.? It does not hang on the “Connecting to Gemini…” screen.

?

Not sure why things work better when there is an Ethernet connection, but this may be a clue.? This is the case when the G2 is plugged into a network with a router (with DHCP) or even when directly to a laptop that is off the network (no router, no DHCP).? I have tried disabling DHCP in the G2 but there is no change in this behavior.

?

I have also tried using another cable between the HC and G2 Controller but got the same results, so the problem does not seem to be related to a bad cable connection.? Not sure what I’m doing wrong.? ?Anyway, when it hangs the work around is to unplug the HC from the G2 controller and then plug it back in.

?

Bill

L6 - HC Brightness Not Saved

开云体育

After upgrading to level 6, I have noticed that the Hand Controller brightness is not saved between G2 power-ups.?? Below is what I have observed.

?

  • On power-up, the display always goes to full brightness after you click Cold Start.? It does not remember the brightness setting between each power-up even though the “Store Settings” button was used to save the HC settings.
  • The startup screen (Cold Start, Warm Start, etc.) seems to remember the brightness setting but once the HC starts up with a Cold Start, Warm Start, or Warm Restart, it always goes to full brightness.
  • After the mount has been started, you can change the brightness, store it, and the HC remembers the brightness setting.? You can un-plug and then re-plug the HC back into the G2 controller and the display brightness comes up correctly.? It will remember the saved brightness setting until the next Gemini power-up when it goes back to 100%.? The stored brightness setting seems to get overridden when going through a Cold Start, Warm Start, etc. on power-up.
  • The ASCOM driver always reports 100% brightness.? ?You can set the HC brightness via ASCOM to some dimmer value like 6.6%, but the value that the ASCOM driver reads back from the G2 is always 100%, even when it is not set at 100%.

?

Not too big of a deal.? However, you may have to reduce the brightness setting each time you power-up if you find that the 100% brightness setting is not good for your night vision.

?

Bill F.

Re: Level 6 Upgrade

Okay, I made it through this, this was a white-knuckle experience. I am glad I am unassuming, cautious and ready for it all to crash at any given point. I am setting Civil Time, is that my local time or Universal Time?

Re: Level 6 Upgrade

You don't need to download anything. Just go to Windows Control panel Programs & Features, and enable .NET 3.5 (includes 2.0):
