Re: Asiair problems
Barry,
The mismatched time and location data also includes epoch. I don't know which update to which device resolved the issue. But with L5 it was always a little bit off when using Gemini-2 to GOTO with the ASIAIR app. Your later ASIAIR app should work okay with L5 or at least well enough once it has plate solved for position. Then just sync between them.? This doesn't preclude the importance of good polar alignment and building a model with at least two stars on either side of the meridian.? This is still important! As I understand it Gemini-2 must still have a good model for the ASIAIR to use or GOTOs will not be so good and potentially get worse as the number of GOTOs increases.? Before I changed firmware to L6 Beta there was always a struggle between the ASIAIR and Gemini-2. The ASIAIR app always wanted to use my cell phone's data for time, date and location. I always wanted to set the time.to the correct UTC time and use zone 0 for offset as I have done for many years to avoid the twice a year issue of DST or Standard Time change and getting caught out by the change. Also there is about a 19 second offset between GPS time which is what cell phones use and UTC which is adjusted in the real world with leap seconds. So GPS is ahead by about 19 seconds so they are always in conflict.? In the end Igave up trying and just let the ASIAIR push its time and coordinates down to the Gemini-2. There is a button that is labeled refresh when you initialize the ASIAIR app. Use.it to synchronize the app with the Gemini-2 and let the app push the TDL data down to Gemini-2. IRL it matters little because the ASIAIR does a GOTO then centers using a plate solve to validate camera position against the actual sky.? -- Chip Louie Chief Daydreamer Imagination Hardware? ? ?Astropheric Weather Forecast - South Pasadena, CA? |
Re: Asiair problems
Hi Barry,
So you likely have the production level 5 firmware and similar HC firmware. It has been a while but AFAIK all you need to do is set the MOVE speed to 500 in the Gemini-2 or so using the web browser or HC and the PA routine will work fine.? I also had the issue where the ASIAIR could not GO TO an object. I tracked it down to mismatched time and location data. Double check them and see if the issue changes.?? -- Chip Louie Chief Daydreamer Imagination Hardware? ? ?Astropheric Weather Forecast - South Pasadena, CA? |
Re: New Stellarmate
That's a good point! I did something similar, giving up on stellarmate because it was too slow, and switching to running astroberry on my RPI4. I will give this new stellarmate a try though, hopefully it has improved. Otherwise I will stick with my current setup which is ubuntu/ekos/kstars/indi on a MeLe -- with a windows boot available to to PEC training with PEMPro.?

Re: Meridian Flip - Stopped Working
Check that prior to the flip you have performed a?sync/plate solve+sync and check the Hour angle and Time to Limit correspond to each other. (ie, at HA=0 when crossing the meridian, the time to limit is 16m00s in your case (4 minutes per degree)). If not right, then you might need to ensure your CWD is correct (ours drifts off over time for an unknown reason) Graeme On Thu, 16 Feb 2023 at 14:19, Frank Wielgus <frankwielgus55@...> wrote: Win 11, Gemini 1.0.84, Ascom 661.3673 |
Meridian Flip - Stopped Working
Win 11, Gemini 1.0.84, Ascom 661.3673
East Limit 94, West Limit 94, WGL 3 Successfully imaged with the new mount In October then nothing till this past week.? During an imaging session, the mount failed to flip with the capture software indicating mount still reporting west pointing east ( meridian flip parameters in software -ccdciel - were not changed ). I manipulated all the limits in an attempt to resolve with no luck - mount continues to track to limit then stops. All from cold starts. I also tried without capture software and just the planetarium program - trying to use the gemini sofware to do the flips at various points from the meridian to the limit - same results. I am at a loss here.? Any suggestions ? Frank |
Re: G11 g2 tracking Issues
fully support the suggestion. take careful note (and a few photos, and lay out parts carefully) of the order of washers, spacers, bearings and the plastic clutch disc as you disassemble it. On Thu, 16 Feb 2023 at 19:38, Paul Homer <phomer60@...> wrote:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThank you all for your help, I am using gemini 2 which has not been updated for a few years, it is not beta. The asiair app is also not beta and it is using the update issued approx 3 months agoOn Feb 15, 2023, at 8:45 PM, Chip Louie <chiplouie@...> wrote:

Re: Asiair problems
Hi Barry,?
A few questions to help me keep track of this stuff. What version Gemini are you using, all Gemini 1, Gemini 2 original tallboy or Gemini 2 mini??? What version Gemini 1/2 firmware does the hand controller show?? If using Level 6 Beta firmware what is the date of the L6 firmware and HC firmware?? What version ASIAIR app did you update your ASIAIR Pro to? The last production ASIAIR app release was v2.0 with 10.46 firmware. The current Beta from last week is ASIAIR app v2.1 with 10.71 firmware.? One of the weirdnesses that happens with ASIAIR app and firmware updates is that the ASIAIR changes and/or forgets some Gemini settings. So it is not unusual for Gemini users to have to check the Gemini settings after doing a full ASIAIR app and ASIAIR firmware update. The one obvious issue is that the MOVE speed is always set to a very low value and you need to set it manually using the HC or web UI via browser. Also if using the L6 Beta you need to confirm that the servo encoder option is set to 4x not 1x.? ? -- Chip Louie Chief Daydreamer Imagination Hardware? ? ?Astropheric Weather Forecast - South Pasadena, CA? |
Re: New Stellarmate
One big advantage of raspberry pi are that full VNC licence is included, so remote access is really easy. I found this out recently when trying to set up a linux pc for remote use with kstars/ikos etc that VNC is not free, and has an annual licence charge. This makes a compelling feature to use raspberry pi since I really hate the "annual charge" model of software use. Sorry Jim has it correct. It's changing the move speed On Wed, Feb 15, 2023 at 8:00 PM Jim Potts <jpotts2469@...> wrote: Barry, Brian? Brian Valente astro portfolio? portfolio astrobin? --

Re: Asiair problems
Barry,
To fix the speed issue on the PA, change the Move speed on the Hand Controller to 500 or more.? Once you get it PA'd, the goto should work fine, but if it doesn't let us know what message you are getting.? One thing on the goto, if you have put in safety limits on your mount and the goto would exceed those limits (say your target is at the meridian or close to zenith), the mount will not respond to the move command.? Regarding going to home after tracking or imaging, I have not figured out that issue as mine does the same thing and I have heard of others having issues.? ?It does try to go home and usually if I tell it to go home twice or after an imaging session it gets close. But as long as you have your safety limits set, I do care if it does go back to home after an imaging session. Hope this helps, Jim |

>>>?I recall seeing something about this issue.? From what I recall the Gemini-2 is set to Guide or Move during the PA process.? Check the slew speed on the HC and make sure its set correctly.? Sorry; I don't recall what the actual fix was. the issue was that PA process uses center speed, which needs to be increased to 600 so it's not so slow On Wed, Feb 15, 2023 at 6:55 PM Barry Waters via <watersbarry50=[email protected]> wrote:
