I am trying to identify the surname of my great great grandmother. Her name was Martha and she married Nathan Hardrick. They are on the 1880 census for Appling county. I have found two land records, one dated Feb 28, 1876 where she bought 100 acres more or less in the SW portion of lot 427, district 2 from William Morris, Jr. This land was sold on Dec 3, 1889. The second land purchase was on April 1, 179 for 45 acres in lot 388 of the 2nd district from John Hamilton. I can not find any record of this land ever being sold. I am hoping that by following the land ownership I might be able to glean a clue as to her maiden name. Sent from Mail for Windows 10

I wanted to post my Appling county connections to this new group. Nathan Hardwick b. abt 1802 Columbus Co., NC died abt 1876/1880 Appling Co Nathan Hardwick/Hardrick b. Aug 1845 Robeson Co, NC and died abt 1912/1915 Appling Co He married 3 times. First to Martha A (last name unknown) abt 1872. children: Rebecca Jane married John F Short Nathaniel James Allek married 1st Cora Bell Hardin, 2nd Ida Gertrude Bracewell He married 2nd to Mary Ella Mock 10 May 1882. She died abt 1896/1899. children: Benjamin Franklin married Minnie Mobley Joseph Alonzo married Verdie Connor Mamie married Leonard Jenks Fred married Berthia Chalker Grace E never married Sallie M married Emmett Mock (her first cousin & nephew of Mary E Mock) He married third to Julia Decker 15 Jun 1901. She died aft 1920. children: Carrie married Dewey Dikes Eldon married Beatris Carter Claude never married Jessie never married
