My latest 2.4GHz amplifier project using a pallet from bisonelectronics-sp2iyr on Ebay and modified to give 75-80W from a 28 volt supply at 15 amps max and a max drive level of 250mW. P1dB is around 50-60W at about 31dB gain (conversion details will be in the next issue of CQ-TV and I will post the article as a file on this site) Heatsink is PS200/250 from GD Rectifiers Box is Hammond 1550J (275x175x67) I used the original semi rigid cables as I had some although I convert most pallets to take SMA so you would still need to make up semi rigid RG-402 cables so as not to put too much load on the SMA sockets.

PSU
Hi Jim May I suggest telling the group that Andy G4JNT ran two Design Notes in Radcom on buck and boost converters. Jan and Feb 2017. In the Feb edition page 36, he aimed at producing a boost converter with robust filtering to power his G4BAO 45W 23cm amp. It looks pretty successful and tailor made to your amp kit. Circuit diagram is on page 36. Do you have a copy to hand? I wonder if one of the group members would make some PCB's? I've almost all the parts except the boost converter to hand. best wishes David Holman M0YDH

More PCB's?
2
A lot of people tried to contact me about the 23cms PA partial kits but did not email me direct as I requested so I did not see their requests. It might be possible to order another batch of PCB's so that commercially available transistors can be used (about ?35.00GBP from Farnell,Digikey and Mouser) IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PCB ONLY THEN EMAIL ME DIRECT AT thebigclunk@... DO NOT REPLY TO ME HERE AS I DON'T MONITOR

tuning for 1296MHz
2
I had one PA that wouldn't tune on the input with a very high SWR at 1296MHz so the secret here is to not link the tuning pads at all to start with and then gradually cut of some of the matching stub shown shaded on the attached sketch until the input SWR gets low enough ( I reckon 1.5 - 2.0 is OK)

kits delivered
A number of you who have received their kits have been very kind to let me know they arrived. It would be much appreciated if the others could do the same for the first issue or issue 2
|
Kits now all gone
The 23cms PA kits are now all gone. I have kept 2 of issue 1 and 2 of issue 2 which I will keep until I am sure that everyone has received their kits - it takes up to 1 month to get to Australia and New Zealand. I may then offer them on this site.

rectangular hole in PCB
2
The rectangular hole in the centre of the pcb will need opening out slightly with a needle file to fit the transistor. If you do it on an earthed metal surface you should be ok for static. Just make sure the transistor sits down flat through the hole. File the hole before fitting components.
