Carrier Oscillators question

Hi Andy, hope you doing well? I’m busy with the MK2 multi bitX still as I don’t have a lot of spare time these days and it’s dragging on a little…

But I was thinking of something and need your advice… my DDS VFO can have offsets for USB and LSB which I’ve never used before on all the radios I’ve used it on as they all have carrier oscillators to switch between like yours. My question is this… my IF is 11.059Mhz so if I locked one CO to 11.059Mhz and used the offsets in the DDS VFO to resolve SSB audio would this idea work?

Sorry to sound like a novice again I feel I’m starting from scratch as I’ve been away from the shack for so long…

If this idea is valid it would make construction etc a lot easier and only one CO needed.

Anyway thank you for your time you give to us with your work and ideas, yours Paul M0EME

Hi Paul,

Nice to hear from you and hope you are doing okay.

Regarding using the DDS for the MK2;

Providing your DDS is capable of providing two separate clock signals you should be fine.

One clock signal is used to generate the VFO signal and the second to generate the carrier oscillator frequencies for USB/LSB, the software driving your DDS must also be capable of generating the frequencies for USB and LSB.

If your DDS is not suitable I would suggest using an Si5351 and one of the many software sketches available on the internet.

Hope this answers your question.
