Good press the g106 is getting lately.

I would assume that you guys have been seeing some of the new reviews on the g106 and they have been encouraging. When people take into account what the little radio costs and it's capabilities it's actually quite a value. It works as well as many of the other little QRP radios out there and then some. I've been looking at YouTube and at eham reviews and lately when people unlike K8MRD radio look at the rig and take into account the purchase price it gets a good review.? If you expect it to perform like a $2,000 radio your dreaming.??

Agreed Randy. I bought one a few months ago when Radioddity had a decent sale on, as a rig to take on the road for POTA and avoid beating up my "real" radio. The reviews and press I've seen were pretty objective. An I can just throw it in a bag without worrying too much.

Now if we can just get Xiegu to release the source code so we can fix the rough edges in the software. They haven't seemed that interested in doing that for the G106, mainly just the G90. (Edit: they've been tweaking the G90. Definitely NOT releasing source code). Much like Quansheng HT sales soared after third party software mods started being available, I think this thing could be a little spitfire if the software kept pace with the hardware.

I'm a happy owner of one, after the latest firmware, and a simple modification of the microphone, this little radio work very well!
The mic mod I did is drilling a bigger hole where the mic element is (open up the mic and remove the board before drilling)

Hello all,
?
Im a g106 owner and am very happy with the results. bought mine on a late auction on Ebay. fellow posted it for quick sale and picked one up for about $130
?
have used mine mostly for CW but also checked into several nets with SSB.
?
Maybe someone could hack the software ? would be a nice thing to tweek the software on things.
?
Anyway , the ones who are giving this little rig a bad rap, probably expects? like everyone here has stated, a $2000 rig.
?
just my take of it all. LOVE THIS RADIO.

Hi David, check out SydneyOwl/g90toolkit on GitHub. He's been looking at the g90, which I believe shares a lot of commonality with the g106. It's too good a radio to let the software cripple it.?

I had mine out in Wisconsin the last couple of days for a POTA activation. Between the g106 and a cheap 50 Watt amp, it's just great. And it runs for hours on a 20Ah battery.
