Generous help to a senior dealing with dangerous heat!
It¡¯s been a rough couple of weeks ¡ 2 hurricanes slammed the continental U.S., another even stronger one devastated the archipelago of Puerto Rico. Four major earthquakes have hit Mexico so far this month. Political upheaval and controversy reigned, not only here in the U.S. but around the globe. We all need to look to something positive, look at those people who thumb their noses at trouble and just roll up their sleeves and get down to the business of helping others. Today¡¯s ¡®good people¡¯ are those who take the meaning of the word ¡®community¡¯ seriously, who believe that we are all in this together and we need to set aside differences to help one another. Julius Hatley is 95-years-young, a World War II veteran, and lives alone in Ft. Worth, Texas. At the beginning of summer, back in June, Mr. Hatley¡¯s central air-conditioning as well as a smaller window unit both went caput, so Mr. Hatley took to sitting out on his porch most of the time, for inside the house was unbearable. Finally, one day Mr. Hatley knew he had to do something ¡ summer was only beginning and he was already miserable. But what to do? So, the only thing he could think of was to call 911, which is what he did. ¡°This wasn¡¯t a regular 911 call,¡± according to Fort Worth Police Officer William Margolis. ¡°It was what you¡¯d label ¡®low priority¡¯ because we¡¯re not AC techs.¡± I have to wonder if many police departments would have just written it off as a ¡®no-priority¡¯ call? But not these guys. Officer Margolis and his partner, Christopher Weir, after responding to a few higher priority calls that morning, went to check on Mr. Hatley. They found that he had no working air-conditioner, and at 8:30 a.m., the temperature inside his house was already 85¡ã (F), 29.4¡ã (C). Now these guys were under no obligation, but out of the goodness of their hearts, they went to Home Depot to buy Mr. Hatley a window unit to replace his broken one. And, just as these things so often do, their effort gained momentum when they explained to the staff at Home Depot what they were doing. Staff and management pooled their available cash and contributed $150 toward the air conditioner! Later that day, Officer Weir returned to Hatley¡¯s home with another Ft. Worth Officer, Steven Rebrovich, and they installed the unit. Mr. Hatley was appreciative and excited beyond words, but the story doesn¡¯t stop there. Once the story hit the news, the community came together in the spirit of ¡ community! An air conditioning company replaced his central air free of charge, and others took care of replacing his windows and re-painting his house! Other members of the community check on Mr. Hatley and deliver groceries every week! This, friends, is what being a community is about. This is what being a human is all about. Let us all give two thumbs up to Officers Weir and Margolis, certainly, but to ALL those who have come to help Mr. Hatley!

God's Plan: Always Seek A Healing Outcome!
Today's Scripture: Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. Now very early in the morning, He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him. He sat down, and taught them. The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman taken in adultery. Having set her in the midst, they told Him, "Teacher, we found this woman in adultery, in the very act. Now in our law, Moses commanded us to stone such. What then do You say about her?" They said this testing Him, that they might have something to accuse Him of. But Jesus stooped down, and wrote on the ground with His finger. But when they continued asking Him, he looked up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her." Again He stooped down, and with His finger wrote on the ground. They, when they heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last. Jesus was left alone with the woman where she was, in the middle. Jesus, standing up, saw her and said, "Woman, where are your accusers? Did no one condemn you?" She said, "No one, Lord." Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more." --John 8:1-11 There is much controversy concerning this oft-referenced and beloved account in Scripture, including whether it should appear at this particular point in John's Gospel--or elsewhere in it--or not at all. It is beyond my ken to determine the matter, but I will treat it as a matter of Scripture where it commonly occurs in the Johannine sequence--and to further grant it the legitimacy which I believe it deserves as well as the lessons to be drawn from such. My apologies in advance to those who consider me to be overly verbose in my compositions, but in researching this I found separate perspectives that to me each had stand-alone value in their presentation and insights--and at least in and of themselves are fairly concise and to the point. Whether read and reflected on separately or as a single presentation, I hope you will each find one, the other, or perhaps all of them to be of value to you too. **** The scenario is certainly a familiar one. The Pharisees are laying a trap for Jesus in hopes of forcing Him to make one of two responses, both designed to alienate Him from one faction of His followers or another. In this instance, they bring forth a woman caught in the act of adultery and pointed out that Moses's command was to stone such an offender to death. This application of Jewish Law is based upon Leviticus 20:10 and Deuteronomy 22:22¨C24, which under the Old Covenant did indeed call for the death penalty for adulterers, though not necessarily by stoning (depending on the particulars of the offense) and holds _both_ offenders to this penalty--yet only the woman is brought before Jesus for judgement. Already we see hypocrisy at work. Further hypocrisy will be demonstrated by these same accusers who here cry for the woman's death by stoning as "mandated" by Jewish Law, yet will soon turn to the Roman governor Pilate to carry out their dirty work of executing Jesus under the pretext that only Roman officials can adjudicate and enforce cases for which there is a death penalty! Thus the poor woman brought before Jesus was a mere pawn in their game: their concern was not with rendering a righteous judgement but to trap Jesus in a no-win situation, discredit Him publicly, and secure for themselves the superior status of "religious authority." Jesus, on the other hand, was primarily concerned with the plight of the woman brought before Him and sought an outcome based on healing and reconciliation. One curious aspect of this passage is Jesus--seemingly distracted--drawing or writing in the sand. What He was writing specifically does not appear to have been important, or else it would have been mentioned in the passage. One interpretation is that He was just biding His time--first perhaps allowing passions to cool in hopes of a better outcome, then perhaps waiting for the ramifications of His counter-challenge to sink in to those who tried to set Him up. 10-year-old paramedic teaches life-saving lessons!
Meet Jack Dawson ¡ ¡ the 10-year-old paramedic who teaches adults life-saving procedures as an in-demand mini-medic. Jack Dawson was just two-years-old when it became obvious he was interested in becoming a paramedic. His grandfather owns a first response company in Staffordshire, England, and Jack would ride along in his ambulances with the flashing blue lights. By age three, he would start ¡°randomly performing CPR on his teddies, pumping the bear¡¯s chest¡±. ¡°So, at the same time he was learning to speak, my husband and I decided to teach him first aid,¡± said his mother, Danielle. ¡°He was like a sponge. He just picked everything up so quickly.¡± Jack, quickly grasped the act of CPR, understanding the different recovery positions, and learned how to use a defibrillator. Then, at age seven, the youngster started to lead workshop sessions of his own, overseen by his father and other trainers for their charity, Tamworth Have A Heart, which aims to make automatic defibrillators publicly accessible and train people to use them confidently. Jack teaches both children and adults how to perform CPR and use defibrillators, while also patrolling his town centre and checking that the public defibrillators¡¯ pads and batteries are up to date and fit for use. ¡°His motto was ¡®if I can save a life, then you can¡¯,¡± says Danielle. The sessions often draw 20-40 people and sometimes Jack gives presentations teaching in front of 100 people. He does step-by-step walkthroughs on how to perform CPR with practice dummies laid on the floor, informing people about the dangers¡ªincluding ¡°looking into patients airways before pumping, in case of vomit or blood¡±. He gives tutorials on how to operate defibrillators which are used to revive someone from sudden cardiac arrest. ¡°He absolutely loves teaching,¡± Danielle told SWNS news agency. ¡°I¡¯ve never seen him so confident before and the fact he¡¯s helping people to save a life determines him even more. People are very surprised. He gets a lot of positive feedback and even special requests to teach people. I think people appreciate the information coming from a child, as it makes them think that if a 10-year-old can do it, then they can.¡± Under the name ¡®Mini Medic¡¯, Jack has a YouTube channel and a page on TikTok TikTok - Make Your Day posting medical tutorials and training nights for those unable to attend. As a result of his community work, the 10-year-old is a finalist for Children of Courage Birmingham Awards. Looking forward, Danielle said he¡¯s enthusiastic about going to university and being a paramedic. ¡°It¡¯s all he thinks about!¡± Check out the video below from the news agency SWNS.com https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYsZnpKAExs Meet the 10-year-old paramedic ? | LOVE THIS!
