Human levitation is the ability to rise up from the ground without any apparent means of physical support. Probably everyone knows the Biblical tale of Simon Magus. The apocryphal Acts of Peter gives a legendary tale of Simon Magus' death. Simon is performing magic for the Roman Emperor Claudius Caesar in the forum. In order to prove himself to be a god, he flies up into the air. The Apostles Peter and Paul pray to God to stop his flying, and Simon stops mid-air and falls to his death. Go figure. On one occasion, the historical Buddha himself apparently flew up in the sky over a small town (Sravasti), using a levitation power (siddhi), and hovered there for awhile. If the Buddha wanted to, he could probably fly all the way to the heavens (Tusitta) and back again in reverse! YMMV. The theory of human levitation is pretty easy to follow - it's not complicated. The theory is that if you learn very deep meditation techniques (yoga) you can go into a trance induction state, which will help "burn off" all your accumulated past actions (karma) that are weighing on your soul (monad) holding you down and making you suffer. The deeper and longer you dive (transcend) to a state of pure consciousness, (cosmic unity) the more sense impressions (samskaras) you will dissipate or burn off (tapas). At some point, usually five to seven years, you will begin to experience the bubbling bliss followed by hopping. YMMV. In order to keep the body conditioned it is recommended to practice several bodily positions and hand placements. There are several very helpful poses (asanas) you can employ such as the head-stand, the corpse pose, the sun salutation, and if possible, the bound lotus position. And, if you follow the special dietary injunctions, in time you will become as light as a cotton fiber! At first, you simply close your eyes and sit comfortably on a straw mat in a back yard somewhere and just watch your breathing - this is meditation. A fully accomplished master (guru) will be able to sit like this for decades, just doing nothing.
