Then He Knew

Then We Knew

?

First we thought he would never be a serious candidate.

Then we thought he would never get the nomination.

Then we thought he would never win the election.

Then we thought he would become presidential.

Then we thought the generals would protect us.

Then we thought Bob Mueller would save us.

Then we thought the Democrats would impeach him.

Then we thought the Republicans would abandon him.

Then we thought he could never be reelected.

Then we thought the constitution would save us.

Then we stopped thinking.

Then we knew. ~Norman Vig, Professor, Carleton College

Then we thought he would become presidential.

I never thought this... why should he bother *after* he ¡°won¡±? ?Made no sense, he showed us who he was a million times. ? Those who really expected that are almost as hopeless as those who voted for the madman, IMO.?

I think a lot of people hoped (not "thought"¡ªparticularly after he was elected) that he would respond to the gravity of the responsibility, learn on the job and take the advice of experts.? I never thought for a second he would do any of that either.? That was also an explanation a lot of Republicans told themselves to help excuse his ignorance, behavior, and their vote.?

The author is a political science professor.?

Yea, it has certainly made all those with a modicum of common sense and decency sit up and take stock. Who are we actually surrounded by in this country of ours? Who, exactly, is at the helm and how the fucking hell do we get into a head space where we feel even a teensy weensy bit of control over our destinies? We have woken up to a nightmare and it isn't going away any time soon. My solution at the moment is to try and stop reading and watching the news. I need a break. The only thing I really want to read about is trump flailing for his life in court.

Some people are highly susceptible to suggestion. YMMV.

I hear you.? I subscribed to TV in order to watch the Georgia runoff and certification in real time and then decided to keep the subscription through the trial.? The timeline and footage and case the House put together was delivered responsibly and brilliantly. One can't even compare it to the malign and cynical farce tRump directed his lawyers to present.? I couldn't watch it.?

I need a break too.? I'm ending my subscription and diving in to the never ending list of things to do!??

Anti-Trump-cultists, Trump-cultists, climate deniers, anti-vaxxers, anti-evolutionists, flat-earthers, QAnon believers, chemtrail believers, UFOs and all yogic flyers. The one thing they have in common - closed minds, impervious to reason. YMMV.

Look at it this way - at least you had a minute or two of humor posting every day. YMMV.

At least I bow know that I'm not the only one posting here that went down the rabbit hole. YMMV.
