I subscribe to this.? She's excellent.? April 17th speaks to the larger and ongoing danger/demise of democracy and the political statements by Russia and a few events demonstrating the US pivot towards authoritarianism.? An interesting read.?? Unfortunately, my plans to do some traveling to other climes and test out options to establish a second base outside the US (given what I consider the very real possibility that our democracy will be overthrown) have been interrupted because the universe has gifted me a job.? A full-time job with local government.? This will help me financially, which is good.? The loss of my time and flexibility to see my kids and friends and pursue other things feels like a big sacrifice.? Boy, have I loved being out of the daily grind.? I should stop whining as I've always known I would have to go back to work and put in another at least 5 years at a minimum.? How I would do that was up in the air.? I tend to throw my asks, intentions, and decision points out into the universe and see what shows up in return.? The reality is I'm immensely fortunate.?? -- Em |
开云体育I read her on FB, yes she is excellent.?Don’t ?know what to say about the possibility of losing our democracy except I wonder how much we have left now… doesn’t seem like much, especially compared to other Western societies. ? Known insurrectionists are still there, unconstitutional laws are being passed in various states with seeming impunity, the Party of Death continues to pass laws to undermine even the most basic health ?standards, and the threats to minorities and migrants grow daily. ?All it would take to lose whatever’s left of this house of cards is most likely one good kick. 开云体育And nobody tried ?to stop him. ?Where was Obama when he was stealing the first seat? ?Why wasn’t he yelling it from the rooftops? ?Because everyone thought Hillary would win? ?A poor reason for not trying to educate people on how the Senate was basically flipping off the American people and not doing its constitutional duty. And so here we are. ?If this appalling opinion gets passed it’ll only be the beginning I’m assuming. If precedent means nothing the rule of law is basically dead as far as I can see. Anyone else ?see it differently? Sal On May 2, 2022, at 9:10 PM, Emily Mae via groups.io <emily.mae50@...> wrote:

开云体育?Definitely most malaise is rooted in economic deprivation, which is pretty much what most deprivation ?comes down to. ? ?These right-wingers see others making advances while their wages, ?lifespans and health situations remain the same or go down and instead of holding responsible ?the “leaders” who are creating this populist devastation, instead blame anyone else. Supposedly the US has been at war for its entire history save 5 years, 1975-80. ?It’s long past time for a reckoning.? I haven't studied the "origins of war," honestly. ?So for fun, I just googled it. ?Of course, there is a book by that very name. ?Here's the blurb:
When did war begin? Standard military accounts tend to start with the Graeco-Persian wars, laying undue emphasis on the preeminence of Greek heavy infantry. But, as this strikingly original and entertaining book shows, the origins of war can be traced back not to the Iron Age, or even to the Bronze Age, but to the emergence of settled life itself nearly 10,000 years ago. The military revolution that occurred then? The invention of major new weapons, the massive fortifications, the creation of strategy and tactics ultimately gave rise to the great war machines of ancient Egypt, Assyria, and Persia that dominated the Near East until the time of Alexander the Great. It is Arther Ferrill's thesis that in the period before Alexander there were two independent lines of military development: a Near Eastern one culminating in the expert integration of cavalry, skirmishers, and light infantry and a Greek one based on heavy infantry. When Philip and Alexander blended the two traditions in their crack Macedonian army, the result was a style of warfare that continued, despite technological changes, down to Napoleon. This newly revised edition presents detailed and copiously illustrated accounts of all the major battles on land and sea up to the fourth century b.c., analyzes weapons from the sling to the catapult, and discusses ancient strategy and tactics, making this a book for armchair historians everywhere. -------------------------------------------------------- "...mass psychosis,?brought to you by the party of “family values.” ?Good one. ? -- Em |
