I like Pioneer because they cater to cinemaphiles.? My previous Pioneer had two compression settings that worked well.? These days studios seem to be only paying for a sound mix meant for large theaters with loud action scenes and very soft dialog.? The latter they came up with discourage people from talking during movies.? The AV Receiver therefore needs settings available to compress the highs and lows when you stream those movies.

I have a MacBook Air to build iOS apps.? But it only has a 128GB SSD so I got a 500GB external hard drive and boot off it.? That's a mechanical drive and looking at external SSD prices I could clone it to an SSD which would be much faster for the same price as the external HHD cost.? SSDs were about twice that price a year ago.

This Linux box is 10 years old and still going strong with the hardware you recommended.? But Linux is getting bloated nowadays so I just got a 2TB Seagate Barracuda drive and will make a 256GB boot partition and clone the boot from the old drive and then copy the 2nd partition.? I've also got an Nvida JetPack that runs Linux but need to put it in a case and add more storage.? It is very fast.

Quality control issues are concerning, after reading the Amazon reviews. My friend Bob got a SONY 4K but he paid over $1000 for it. In fact, I'm getting rid of a lot of equipment - sold to the local Hi-Fi shop - vintage receivers, speakers, tape decks etc, including a rare $1000 1970 Sansui turntable.

Currently we enjoy listening to cool jazz on the Yamaha using YouTube and Chromecast from my laptop. We also watch Netflix and Prime movies and shows. YMMV.

My first receiver was a Yamaha (bundled with Klipsch speakers from Good Guys) and the second a Pioneer.? I wanted to get the recent low end Pioneer but so did everyone else apparently as they are sold out. ;-)

Cal Tjader used to play Sunday evening jams at the DoubleTree in the Seattle area back in the early 1970s.? The jazz trio I was in played there regularly.?

When I was at the University of Washington in 1967, I wound up being president of the jazz society and we had a Sunday afternoon concert with John Handy at the Hub.? Bobby Hutcherson was playing vibes with Handy at the time and when they dropped by the jazz club downtown to get his vibes it was locked up.? So since I was a music major I ran over to the music building and brought back our Deagan vibes.? Bobby played and endorsed Musser vibes but gladly accepted the Deagan's to use.? Afterward he told me he was able to play things on the Deagan vibes he couldn't on the Musser.
