Wood Propeller - Proper Bolt Torque Reminder...
The attached picture was sent to me by a friend on FB. While the a/c isn't a Fairchild it's still a stark reminder that proper propeller bolt torque is extremely important and should be checked at recommended intervals. Happy flying, Alan

New Tires for PT....
As part of my PT refresh project new tires/tubes are in order. Given that the PT's wore 'smooth' tires during their military service it was my desire to put the same on our a/c. I reached out to Wilkerson Aircraft Tires in Blackstone, VA and was not disappointed. I can't say enough good things about my experience with the company, Sara and Jayne. In this age of crap for customer service, these two restored my faith. Attached are pics of our 'new' smooth recap 6.50-10's for the PT, I'm anxious to get them mounted. I use to have a set of period landing gear struts with wheels that sported 1943 B.R. Goodrich smooth tires, they looked really cool. (Long before the current fad of big fat smooth tires.) On a personal note, just for fun is attached a pic of my father from 1943. He was in the Army Air Corp Reserve and was a mechanic on PT-19's. Stationed in Miami, OK (British training field.) and Mustang Field near El Reno, OK. I miss him dearly! Keep 'em Flying Alan Brakefield N54712

Sensenich Wood Propeller Refinish..... 4
It's time to freshen up the PT so I'm starting with the propeller, W86RA-61. We installed this prop new in 1992, although still airworthy it needed refinishing and balance. Sensenich still offers this service and it is substantially less than the price of new provided your prop is airworthy. I received my prop back yesterday and man is it nice. I purchased some Fairchild decals from Mike Kelly and Sensenich applied them for me during the process. (Photos attached of before/after.) A few fun facts: New price in 1992 - $1,165 This is just about the amount I paid for refinish/re-balance and freight March 2025.) Freight in 1992 from PA to OKC - UPS $14.44 (not a typo) Freight from FL to OKC in 2025 - FedEx Ground $286.31. UPS was going to be $460.00. Alan Brakefield Keep 'em Flying!

Rudder and Elevator control springs. 5
Quick question, I’m assuming one of the springs noted in the M-62A TCDS, item 602 Rudder and Elevator system spring (Fairchild Dwg. 62177) is the elevator spring I have circled in the picture. There are also springs just fwd of the aft pedals. I haven’t been able to find the drawing and would like to avoid the restrictions outlined in the TCDS.

Warner 4
Hi I am planning to do an overhaul on my Warner 165. The crankcase has still the 5/16 cylinder base studs. Need to change them as the new cylinders has 3/8 holes. Can some one help me with a source and part number? Know that there is an AD about them. Have searched on the old part number without success. PTs new home
Very happy to see new life in this group. Thanks for the reminder, David! My 1943 PT-26 has a new home, as I just donated it to the Chico Air Museum, where it joins a group of 20 other aircraft on display at the Chico Municipal Airport. This was a project I acquired in 1996 at the start of a long (16 yr) restoration. I learned a lot and had help from many friends during that process. I'm glad I did it, and I'm glad it is also finished. Here's a photo in it is new home:

Little activity on this list 25
It seems we are seeing very little activity on this list. People are starting to leave. The Facebook group is so much more active. Maybe at some point we can call it quits with this one since the FB group seems to do a better job of bringing us together for Fairchild activity. Opinions?

PT wing parts 5
I'm parting out the remains from my PT-26 restoration project. Biggest pieces are the 2 outer wing panels. I don't trust their glue joints so did not use them for my own project. They are suitable for patterns and salvage of the the steel components. Is there any interest in obtaining them? If not they may be turned into a display that shows the internal structure of a wooden wing. Respond to this message if you would like to obtain them. They are in northern California.

$35,000 1946 F24 Ranger 400 SMOH 2
In annual, almost squawk free and priced to sell. New prop, tires a few hoses and overall well sorted airplane. Engine and restoration done in the 80’s, ceconite, burns almost zero oil and very easy starter, paint is not perfect but a great airplane to fly! At this price might as well buy it for parts, located in NJ, call or text 412.996.9967 can deliver or disassemble. Have an extra core Ranger that spins free and a Hartzel controllable pitch propeller setup that I will sell separate.

fuel selector differential lubrication
I have a question: How do you guys lubricate the little fuel selector differential gearbox? grease the gears. I see some safety wired pins, but can't tell if that will enable me to get grease to the gears. Hard to get to. Thanks for any help you can offer. David
