Microphones and Zoom

Hi Ladies, Did you see this? We should all listen to recordings of ourselves: sound opinions?Zoom bias: The social costs of having a ‘tinny’ voice during video conferences The thin, metallic sound associated with low-quality computer microphones can negatively affect a listener’s judgement of the intelligence, credibility, and even romantic desirability of the person speaking, a Yale study finds. Where's Cynthia's Art?
Hello art collectors, friends of art and the curious...... I recently received notice that 4 pieces of my work have been juried in at the 2025 Art at the Mill show coming up in April 26 to May 5/11/25. Last year was a drought year with this group, so I am extremely delighted to once again be selected into this very competitive show! The Mill is located at 15 Tannery Lane, Millwood, Va 22646. Show times are Sundays 12-5 PM and rest of the days 10 AM-5 PM. It is possible to purchase online if you are so inclined. They will not mail, so picking it up is the only option. You can view all entries on their website in alphabetical order. Look for my entries under "Miller"?. <www.artatthemill.org>. Remember there is a really cool store across the street (except Monday) for soup, sandwiches, oddities, gourmet items and wine and there are a ton of wineries all around the area. It is a great time to make a day of it during the two weeks the show is open. I am also participating in the Falls Church Arts in the Park on Sunday, April 26th located in the usual Sat. Market area on the Falls Church Government Center grounds. There will be over 40 artists there that day and everyone is hoping for a beautiful windless sun filled day. I will have a table somewhere.....with some of my smaller pieces and lots of the casually wrapped mounted but not framed pieces. It would be lovely to see you and chat! If you call me on my cell when you park in the area, I should be able to describe my location. 703-615-7429. Please remember my studio is located at 307 East Annandale Rd., Falls Church (Studio 101) Until next time.... All the best, Cynthia

Seeking opinions on long-term care insurance
7
Hi there! ? I hope you're all doing well and looking forward to some warmer spring weather! ? ? I wonder if you all have any thoughts/experience with long-term care insurance or life insurance with a long-term care option. My financial advisor is strongly suggesting it as a way to protect my retirement assets. The policy is a life insurance policy with a LT care option. It is one where, if I need LT care (after a 90-day elimination period), I could get up to $12k/mo or anything less than that for up to 3 years. After that, I'd have to cover all expenses out of my own personal funds. ? ? The policy allows homecare or facility if I cannot perform two of the activities for daily living. If I never end up needing it, then the life insurnce goes back into my estate, so in essence I don't lose it. If I need access to the funds before I die, I have access to them as well. It would cost me $7200/yr ($600/mo) and would be in effect until I'm at least 95. ? ? Anyway, right now, I have a healthy and diversified retirement fund and they say this kind of insurance is intended to protect my personal retirement funds in the event of a situation where I need long-term care. ? ? Have any of you dealt with this for yourselves or a family member/friend? My parents are both in good health at 85 and 91, and neither have had to take advantage of this kind of service. Of course, none of us know what could happen tomorrow. Putting out this kind of money at the moment is just giving me pause, especially given what's going on in our government right now. ? ?So I decided to check in with my tribe to see what kind of info or knowledge you might have to share on this topic. ? ?Any thoughts? ?Any questions I should ask my advisor? ? ?Thanks! ?Linda ? ? ----- ?Linda Howard, CVF, PMP, CMC? Proposal Withdrawal
11
Well, for the first time in my almost 20 years of Synergy Forces, I withdrew a Proposal. I put more time into this Proposal than ever before. Once submitted, they kept coming back asking for more forms to be completed and for me to agree to cover more costs and more demands for more scope within a tight budget. Ugh! I wish I had anticipated this earlier instead of putting in all this time just to withdraw. I'm just frustrated and disappointed and needed to vent! I could have used that time for other proposals! Thanks for reading...

Receiving credit card payments from a federal agency
7
Greetings everyone, I have possible small-scale engagement with a federal agency with potentially more to follow. They insist that they will only pay via credit card and say that PayPal is no longer an option. Nor is there anyone there at this time who can advise me on what app/online tool is acceptable. What have you successfully used? Please respond directly to me. I will compile a list of the results for distribution. Many thanks! Hello and Time to Get Together?
16
Hello Ladies, It has been way too long. Is it time for us to get together again either in person or virtually? Happy to host you all up here in late September or October. Let's get something on the calendar. On another front, I have a friend who will rent out (or sell) a very cool building in Georgetown she bought where she had her consulting firm that she has sold to a bigger agency. I have seen this space and it is ideal for a facilitation group or consulting firm. I have attached the flier. If you know someone who might be interested, please pass this along. How engaged are you on Zoom
2
Hi Ladies, This is an interesting article about what your brain is doing on Zoom. I wonder how it would compare for facilitated activities in person versus Zoom, and for different types of people. you’re on muteZooming in on our brains on ZoomIn a new study, Yale scientists found that brain activity during online exchanges is substantially lower than during face-to-face interactions, underscoring the importance of live conversation to our natural social behavior. I hope you get out to enjoy the beautiful day today! Becky Becky Roberts (703) 472-3313

My experience with Erin Gordon
3
(no subject) Greetings all: I just facilitated an in-person retreat and had Erin Gordon handle the visual recording. This was a tough crowd. She did a fabulous job. She was flexible, supportive, knowledgeable, and produced a terrific result. The client was thrilled with it. I know I talked with several of you about who you've used in the past so I thought I'd share how things turned out. PS re my Mom's story... Fwd: going to MAFN event this Friday?
9
Yes, there is quite a story! My Mom suffered a heatstroke last Thursday and came close to dying. Here's what happened. Her aide left her sitting on her back deck with a bottle of water and reminded her not to stay out too long. Then the aide wrapped up her shift. Mom routinely comes back in and takes a nap and the aide returns at 5:30. I also usually give her a ring... This was something she's done for a long time. She enjoys watching the birds etc. Mom got it in her head to trim and deadhead her peonies. (Something her aide has done happily with her in the past.) Mom somehow got her walker down the narrow set of deck stairs and made it across very uneven grass and proceeded to do her gardening. How she did this no one can figure out. She actually got quite a bit done as she took a bag out with her to collect the dead leaves etc. At some point she collapsed and laid out in the grass until a neighbor and his daughter two houses up (this is Pittsburgh so they could see her). They both phoned the EMT's. Mom was wearing a fully charged medicalert -- which doesn’t work when you have a soft fall. Mom apparently had a UTI which can lead to loopy behavior in elders. This time, Mom gave absolutely no indication that she had one. Her aides and I are well-attuned to her “tells” and know when it's time to call the doc's office. By the time Mom arrived at the hospital she had a 106 degree temp and was unresponsive. (Her doc was surprised that she didn't have a seizure as folks her age typically have them when their temp hits 102). Her aide made it to the hospital by about 5:45 PM. We'd just updated/notarized all of her docs the day before. I ended up talking with the nurse about end of life directives. I was told she had sepsis (which she didn't) and a UTI. Shortly after, I was told to get up there ASAP if I wanted to say goodbye. Len and I hopped in the car and made it to the hospital by 2:30 AM. She had been responding appropriately to questions the floor nurse asked and was fine with us. My sons arrived from Virginia about 20 minutes later and Andrew ended up showing her the latest Aaron photos. Jeff (my brother) arrived at 4:00 AM. The next day both DIL's arrived with Aaron in tow. We all had a great visit on Friday and Saturday morning. My brother is still there and it's a good thing. The nurses wanted to let her lay around in bed. She wanted to get up and walk around. Jeff had to push them to get PT to walk with her (she's doing quite well now). He's also had to prompt them to do the prescribed CAT scans she needs to track the pneumonia she developed as a result of throwing up. She's due to get out of the hospital tomorrow. The hospital is pushing for a rehab facility. We're not going to do it. Mom is very independent and wants to stay in her own home with her aides. She's made those wishes very clearly to me . That’s what we’re trying to make happen. She'll have a visiting nurse/OT/PT coming. She's one tough cookie and will be 99 in September. I for one have had more than enough excitement this year! -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: RE: going to MAFN event this Friday? PMI "Renewal"
4
I just got a PMI renewal email that has all the PMI branding but says that my membership will expire in 20 days and to pay an additional $10 by the end of the month. I went to PMI's site directly and noted that I paid for a full year in January 2023. Engaged a chat and requested a live person. The person said that my membership "will expired" in January 2024. Upon further questioning, they told me "No just ignore that email it will expired in 31 Jan 2023". I sent them the message, which included: "Only days left in your PMI membership In just 20 days your membership will end. But you dont have to miss out! Renew your membership today so you can continue to energize your work to make a difference in your career and impact your community. If you have already renewed your Membership, thank you. No further action is required. Special Notice: Please note that we are no longer accepting applications through postal services. Renewing your membership online is the fastest way to maintain access to your benefits. " And it included my membership ID number and full name... Then "Meghna" said "This email means renew membership before expire to avoid extra application fee." She confirmed that I would have to pay an extra $10 "If you will pay after end date of membership." She could not confirm that they sent it. But maybe they did... So... (1) PMI is managing membership this poorly (2) PMI was hacked Either way it is pretty bad. I am thinking that this might my last time renewing... not like it really matters any more... But come on, PMI, sending out "your membership will expire in 20 days" more than 6 months out is not sensible. Unless the person sending it also does not speak English.
